getting templates

I'm new to Scribus so I am not sure whether this is the correct forum.
I am trying to replace InDesign with Scribus.  I use Avery forms for labels.  Avery has downloadable templates for use with their labels. There is no Scribus download option and the InDesign templates don't work.  How can I get appropriate templates?

Here's a workaround:

  • From the Avery site, export the template as a PDF
  • Create a Scribus file with the correct size (as specified for your label sheet...) and the right margins
  • Load the template as a vector in a background layer and make the layer non editable and non printable
  • Use the Column/Row tab in Page > Manage Guides to create the "labels"
  • Enable the snapping to guides
  • Save as a template
  • (Share the template with the community : - )

I once tried to use pre-perforated paper for business cards, and I set up the layout from scratch in Scribus (since it is essentially just a matter of placing guides at the right distances).

But it never worked well because the pre-perforated papers fell apart in the printer.... :)

What kind of printer were you using?

I think back then it was an inkjet (essentially feeding the paper straight through). But the paper was very bad, it almost fell apart when I put it into the printer.

I resorted to printing on a non-perforated paper and cutting the cards.
