Background shape hides margin guides in Scribus 1.5.8 (Ubuntu 22.04)

I'm using Scribus 1.5.8 on Ubuntu 22.04. The document consists of two pages. All guides, including the blue margin guides, are visible by default. On the first page, I placed a shape to serve as a green background. This works as intended, but as soon as the shape is present, most guides disappear—only the baseline grid and the red page margin lines remain visible. The blue margin guides in particular are missing.

If I lower the opacity of the shape under "Transparency," the guides reappear.

Interestingly, when I open an older document from 2021 (created with an earlier version of Scribus) in version 1.5.8, and which also uses a shape as a page background, the guides display correctly.

Is this a bug in the current version of Scribus, or am I missing something in the setup?

If you go to Document setup and Guides, there is a section for setting the Placement of guides relative to each other and the Content Objects.
