Autosave apparently not working

I've been using Scribus for about 5 years - started with version 1.5.7.1 and just upgraded to 1.7.1.svn.

I've had Scribus crash on me before (on v 1.5.7.1) and it would create an "emergencyXXXX.sla" file (fn may be slight different) that contained almost all of my edits.

However, today we had a power failure.  I didn't expect an "emergency" file but I did expect an autosave file.  I found neither.  I lost close to 4 hours of work, so was rather aggrieved that the autosave did not save anything.

I checked in the directory that my document is working in - did not find any dot files or any autosave... file.  I did confirm that the autosave is enabled.  (Go to: File > Preferences, choose the "Document Setup" at left, then the "Saving & Undo tab
. "Enable automatic saving" is checked, interval: 10 mins, number of files to keep: 2, and the radio button for "Save into same directory as doc" is checked.  (Other selections are: Try to save "emergency File", Keep backup files after closing, and show autosave countdown clock.)

I run on Linux, which I just upgraded (had to upgrade Scribus since the upgrade deleted it!!)

What is the problem?  Why is autosave not working for me??

Hard to say, why it was not working for you.

Did the issue happen with 1.7?

What you can do:

Start working on a Scribus sample document, watch if it automatically saves the document, kill it after a few minutes without saving and see if the work has indeed being saved.

Check also if the "rescue" documents have been created and if they can be opened.

And report your findings : - )
