Strange spacing between numbers

Hi all

This might be a stupid question, but I found nothing with search. So when I write or paste numbers in the text box, they show up like there is a space between them, when in reality there is not. If a single number is between letters, it shows up normally. It is wysiwyg, so it also prints like it shows on screen. Very annoying.

All other programs show these numbers correctly if I copy and paste them from scribus. I've never had this problem before, and I've been using Scribus for about ten years.

I tested versions 1.4.6 and 1.4.8, no difference. This must be some basic setting or something I just can't figure out. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

hi franz

if things do not work with scribus 1.4, you're welcome to try out scribus 1.5 (currently 1.5.8, 1.6 soon).

did you try different fonts?
any hints if you turn on the View>Text Frames>Show Control Characters?
any hints in the Story Editor?

sorry, just some spaghetti thrown at the wall

I think patjr's suggestion is best, something extra is being added to your input.
What os are you using? any addons to it? (i'm thinking clipboard addons)

That is a super weird and annoying bug, especially on something as basic as numbers!
Since the issue seems confined to a block of numbers and you mentioned copy-pasting, two quick things come to mind-
1) Many modern fonts have different styles for numbers. If the font is defaulting to 'tabular figures,' it means every number takes up the exact same width (like in a spreadsheet), which can introduce extra space depending on the number. Try looking through the font settings to see if you can switch the OpenType number features to 'proportional figures.'
2) If you type the numbers directly into the text box instead of pasting them? Sometimes a hidden character (like a non-breaking space) gets copied from the source application and causes layout chaos.
You're using older versions (1.4.x), so if all else fails, trying 1.5.8 or the upcoming 1.6 might be the easiest fix!
