Ubuntu 20.04, I said it in the original post.

For some weird reason, if I start a new terminal and Ctrl+C early (preventing my config from loading), the AppImage loads as expected. So there's definitely something off with my config which might be loading the wrong Qt libraries (likely conda).

I'll see if the Flatpak does what I need, and probably take a long hard look at my zsh configuration.

General Discussion / Having trouble with scribus ca...

I recently came across a video tutorial labeled "How to Format Your Book With Scribus" and was trying to locate the two-sided page option in the software. However, to my surprise, I couldn't seem to find it. After some searching, I realized that the version of Scribus used in the tutorial was 1.4.8, while I had downloaded version 1.6.1 to my computer. I wondered if the two-sided page option had been renamed in the newer version of the software. Upon further investigation, I found that the option I was looking for was now referred to as "facing pages." well I think so? after all the symbol is the same thing!
Scripts and Plugins / Re: Table Cell Padding
Last post by a.l.e - Today at 07:57:00 AM
works here... but, depending on your default unit, you want to use a bigger value than 0.15...

with 0.15 i just see a small flicker (here it moves by one and a half millimeters...)

put 20 in there and you will see something : - )

if it's not one of the scripter's functions that has been fixed recently, it should also work for you!

I'm trying to set table cell padding with API but it not setting it. Script runs without an error but no changes are being made.

I am using setCellLeftPadding and values I'm passing are below where I have named my table as mytable
scribus.setCellLeftPadding(1, 1, 0.15, "mytable")

here is the post i've promised above: Sharing files in this Forum

Scribus forums / Sharing files in this Forum
Last post by a.l.e - February 26, 2024, 07:35:04 PM
When asking questions in these forums you might want to share files to better explain your goals... or you will be kindly asked to share them.

This is short tutorial about how you can share your files with the other forums' users.

Attaching files to your post

When creating a new topic you will see this at the bottom of the writing area:

... And pick the file you want to upload.

You can also attach files to your replies, but you need to take care to click on the (red) "Reply" button, instead of the "Quick Reply" button just below the previous post.
(If you have already started writing a Quick Reply, you can select all, copy the content you have already written and paste it into a "real" reply.)

The forums allows you to upload
  • many types of image files,
  • .sla files,
  • doc and odt (but currently not docx) and
  • zip files.

If you want to share an unsupported type of file you can:

  • zip it or
  • upload to a sharing service (see the section below about sharing big files)

Inserting attached images in your post

You can insert in the post the images that you have previously attached to it.

You just need to find the small "triangle up" icon above the attachment and click on it:

Finally, click on the "Insert" button that will popup (and will be a bit mixed up with the background)

Sharing bigger files (or of unsupported types)

If you want to share bigger files, you should upload them "somewhere" and provide the link.

Typically, you can use:

  • The online space provided by big companies like Microsoft, Apple, Google, Dropbox, ... (It's very likely that you have access to one of them)
  • Upload it to your web space you control
  • Use a free sharing tool (suggestions for links are welcome!)

Please, make sure that the uploaded file can be read, without the people helping you, having the need to to register and login.

Sharing files that you want to keep "private"

Sometimes, you might prefer not to provide your files to be downloaded by the whole internet.

In this case, you can

  • use one of the tools suggested in the section above about sharing bigger files
  • and send offer to send the link as a private message to people that are willing to help you

Contribution to this topic

This topic is a work in progress.

If you want to improve it, just write a reply to it and we will try to integrate it in this small tutorial.

Quote from: a.l.e on February 26, 2024, 07:00:23 PMfor your first goal (sorting the recipes alphabetically in each toc's chapter) you should indeed be able to use the TOC tool scribus provides (if your a bit of a masochist)
Yeah, it wasn't that easy to figure out how the Scribus toc works but well, i have found that exporting the text, formating it in shell script and reimport it to Scribus is a little bit scary, but i'm on Linux for appx. 10yrs so that doesn't scare me to much  :D  :D  :D

Quoteor the TOC script i have created (, if you're brave enough to want to learn how to run scripts inside of scribus), select the lines in each chapter and then use a script (i guess i will volunteer to create it) to sort the selection (so you will need to learn how to use scripts anyway...)

if you want an index with the ingredient, you will probably need to create a real index (or suffer a lot by duplicating the content in "hidden" fields and use the TOC tool provided by scribus... but i'm not sure it can do it).
but, even then, it all depends on how you want to present the result.
Hmmm, i will give it a try but if it's to hard for me i had to live without a real index (for this time)

Quotei don't know how much content you already have, but i would like to suggest you to start putting in three or four recipes and then manually prepare an TOC and an index the way you want them to be... and show the result.
for now i have about 70 recipes in plain txt, and at the beginning i struggled a bit with Scribus templates but it looks i have all i need. Just now a document with 5 recipes (each recipe on a single page) and playing around, the learning curve in my opinion is good, but some relations of functions are looking for me like a mess  :o , but at the end no big deal.
Quotefinally, i will start a topic explaining how to share files in this forum and link it later...
Yeah, great. Thank you a lot for jumping in.
