Further to my original post, I have managed to remove the hanging link by repeated deletion of the final visible page.  However Scribus still seems to think there is something beyond the final page, as the pre-flight verifier shows two non-page items, shown in the attached screenshot.  Can these items be removed?  Page deletion doesn't seem relevant, as they aren't pages!

Text and Typography / Phantom A's & Arabic glyphs within text box after saving
« Last post by JodyNoel on January 07, 2022, 07:25:37 pm »
Hello everyone!

I'm creating my 2nd book with Scribus (1.4.8). So I'm trying to figure out which (Open Source) fonts will look best. But I'm having a hugely frustrating issue and I can't find anything about this online. I believe I had this issue with the first book too (many scribus versions ago), but settled on less exciting fonts that worked.

Steps
1) I create content with text box.
2) Save
3) Reopen to see my text with random letters, most often 'A's or sometimes Arabic glyphs

Not all fonts do this ... but many do... the ones I like.. do.  :'(
For months I've been clicking / unclicking / toggling / disabling features / doesn't seem to be proofreading marks or anything that I can find... hope to be wrong here.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
Jody

PS. for some reason I can't take screen shots anymore (FML) so my example is a bad photo  ;D

I have the same problem with random linked text boxes appearing far off the end of the document by themselves. No idea why it happens or how to prevent it, but very interested to find out

Installation and Setup / Scribus 1.5.8 interface pixelated
« Last post by Ewac on January 07, 2022, 10:03:51 am »
I just installed Scribus 1.5.8 and the interface is bigger than before and pixelated, which makes it uncomfortable to work with. I could not find any settings related to this under "Preferences". Is there any way to fix this?

Attached is a screenshot from 1.5.8 and one from 1.5.5 in comparison.

As for fonts I'd check and see if your scribus font path is pointing to the right set of fonts. There maybe some path issues as to where Inkscape may look for fonts on your system and where scribus looks for them. Check their preferences and make sure they use the same set of fonts. inkscape my use a default set that scribus can see. also check if there is an option to embed the fonts used in inkscape for the exported file. that may solve the issue.

Beginner Talk / Hanging link from text frame on last page of document

I am running Scribus 1.4.8 on a Raspberry Pi 4B with 4GB of RAM.  I am currently building a 96 page document (700KB) and all was going well until I discovered that there appears to be a trailing link from the last text frame pointing out into empty space.  Exporting the document as a pdf then results in a warning that pages with numbers larger than 96 are faulty.  By choosing to ignore the warnings and proceed with the export I get a perfectly good pdf file.  If anybody knows (a) why this is happening, and(b) how to cure it, I'd be very grateful to hear.

OK, I got a bit further.

The .eps export from LibreOffice Draw was not OK.
Opening the .svg file in Inkscape and exporting to .eps there solved it.
I uploaded the new file ("DummyInkscapeUngrouped.eps") to the GDrive I linked in the original post.

If I import this file to Scribus I now see that it is imported as text - it is shown as text in Outline window and if I print the file to PDF it is selectable.

However, the layout and the font changed during the import, spacing is messed up.

If I view the .eps file in other tools (e.g. IrfanView, GDrive) it looks normal, so the export itself seems to be OK.

Are there any nuances to .eps import I should be aware of?

Hello again :)

Okay, so I've figured out bookmarks and hyperlinks (to pages).

Luckily, I've been saving as different file names, but now my newest save,
the one with the bookmarks and hyperlinks, doesn't seem to be editable.

The text seems to group up and I can't open Story Editor.

I really don't want to have to go back and re-do bookmarks and hyperlinks, but
so is there a way to unlock or something the newest file?

Thanks so much!
Be well :)

Happy New Year
Best regards,
Kevin H.
