Title: Can not open the menu.xml with firefox followed "Editorial Notes"(help)
Post by: yichuang驿窗 on December 11, 2019, 01:35:48 pm
Hi,

In the menu "Help > Scribus Manual", the chapter of "Editorial Notes" said:

Code: [Select]
Simply direct your browser to share/doc/scribus/en/menu.xml
Does it mean that I can open the menu.xml file with firefox?
I can find the xml file in usr/share/doc/scribus/en/, but, I can not open it with firefox as a web file. And, there is a XSL file.

Can I open the menu.xml with firefox as a web file?

i have no idea why the manual says that (and i did not read that part...) but, yes, firefox can open xml files and will show you a nice view on it.

I thought it was like the "help.png";
But it actually looks like "blank.png";

i had a closer look at it and, indeed, a CORS error gets triggered.

here is the explanation why that won't work (anymore):

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/CORS/Errors/CORSRequestNotHttp

i would simply say that firefox is not (anymore) a good tool for viewing local xml files that reference local xsl stylesheet.
(if you read the linked CVE you will understand that disabling the security mechanism is not a good idea; basically, you should not use any xml reader that has support for javascript...  guess...)
