So for those who want to help translating:

The following languages seem to be fully translated and do not need further help:

  • Dutch
  • Esperanto
  • Chinese (China)
  • Slovenian
  • English (Australia)
  • Hungarian
  • Basque
  • English (United Kingdom)
  • Croatian (Croatia)

The following languages are almost fully translated (>= 98% that means less than 200 words to be translated) and contributing just a few words might help to get them to be 100%):

  • Portuguese (Portugal)
  • Ukrainian
  • Italian
  • Portuguese
  • Arabic

The following languages have more than 90% and if you really have some time you can try to bring them forward (and if several people do it it might get usable before the release of 1.6)

  • Polish (Poland)
  • Galician
  • Spanish (Spain)
  • Portuguese (Brazil)
  • German
  • German (Switzerland)
  • French
  • Norwegian Nynorsk (Norway)
  • Russian

(as an example, German still has about 1000 words to be translated but most of them seem to be names of languages that do not have a translation in Scribus...)

The other languages probably need more care and, depending on the type of strings that are still missing, it won't be easy to get them fully translated before 1.6 is released.
but: what is translated will be included and strings that are translated later will get into 1.6.1 : - )

What do you need to do if you want to help out? The "easy" way is:

- You need to create an account for Transifex (if you don't have one already)
- Join the "scribusstable" project.
- Find "your" language.
- Join the language.
- Ask to be a member of the language with the "dots menu" next to the "View Members" at the top right of the page.

And, of course, you can always get the .ts files from the Scribus source code (https://gitlab.com/scribus/scribus16/-/tree/main/resources/translations?ref_type=heads) and upload your translations to the bug tracker (https://bugs.scribus.net)

hi ale

thank you for the information. i might never have found it.
it's a bit strange that the setting for the 'consecutive hyphenations allowed' is in the 'properties' tab and the one for the 'smallest word' in the 'character style' tab of the paragraph style.
i'm thinking about an entry in the bug tracker...

Scribus 1.7.x now uses SVG based icons where we can scale, and recolor. We may be able to introduce different sizing for 1.6.x in a later release.

https://app.transifex.com/scribus/scribusstable is the link on Transifex for the 1.5.x codebase, which will become 1.6.0. You can use the direct web interface to complete translations. I will download them from Transifex into our code repository.

please try with 1.5.x

1.4.x has not changed (much) since 2012, so it's not really a surprise that its shortcomings have not changed either.

in 1.5.x (soon to be 1.6), you cannot change the size of the icons either, but the size might be saner (it should support high resolution monitors).

hi admfubar

Quote from: AdmFubar on September 21, 2023, 06:46:05 PMThe option is already available in scribus. It is in the content properties window. Select a text box on a page, in the Text Properties (content properties)  there is a entry that allows setting the smallest word, consecutive hyphenations, and the hyphenation character.
you're right – thanks!
unfortunately only the field for 'consecutive hyphenations' made it to the 'style manager', which is where i would like to set those values...

Windows / Re: Toolbar icon size
Last post by AdmFubar - September 21, 2023, 08:28:51 PM
This is a feature that is coming, the developers are waiting for an update to qt before implementing it. Dug around in the scribus install directory and there are other size icon directories there but they are not populated completely, and there seems to be no way at this point to have scribus use them. perhaps when 1.6 is released this will be ready, dont hold your breath on this...

Allegedly you can right click them and select them to be a different size, according to the dev who closed all the bug reports about it. Except you can't! lolz. not on windows 10.
