Raster and Vector Graphics / Re: error with many images

Thank you, as I am starting out, I favored the stable version rather than the one in development, but indeed, it works with 1.5.8

I'm running W10, with a Core I5, 8GB of Ram, +300GB free on an SSD, everything in the same directory and everything in jpg.
Thanks for your suggestion

A 1.7 download is needed on the website.

1.7.x is not a released version.

Here's 1.5.8. The only good news is that menu text isn't hugely blurry by default, like with 1.4x branch on Win10. I still disabled Windows scaling to get text perfectly sharp (this did not affect icon size, I experimented with all settings to try and boost this).

The bad news is i'm still having to manually adjust menu fonts to size 12, and the pictures, whilst a tiny bit more legible are still about 30% too small. eye strain central. Have the devel team looked at Canva and Adobe Express? big chunky buttons. Adored by people. No need to change the interface, but think bigger, chunkier, aesthetic. think less teeny tiny rushing to the optometrist with migraines.

For comparison, next to Scribus 1.5x is Firefox stable's latest version. look at those icons in comparison, way more readable, about 30% larger.

Quote from: MrB on September 22, 2023, 07:21:53 PMScribus 1.7.x now uses SVG based icons where we can scale, and recolor. We may be able to introduce different sizing for 1.6.x in a later release.

Have you ladies and gents considered moving over to Github? It automatically compiles on-server for open source projects. You could then dish out executables for new versions easily. Audacity uses it to good effect.

I've re-read the website and it looks like 1.4 is stable but really out of date, but nobody wants to nail a flag to the mast on 1.5x and make it 1.6. In my opinion (unsolicited, sorry), it's time to put 1.6 out whatever the level of finish. 2012 was ten years ago, your stable branch is basically a ten year old program, and its going to kill this project.

Cyberpunk the game went out to retail almost unusable. From what you're saying, 1.5x is far more usable than unstable. 1.4x is an awful, unusable experience. It might be stable, but its so out of date, its just as non-useful as an app that crashes. Does it crash? No. Can it be used with normal modern equipment? also no. Stick a 1.6 number on 1.5.8. Be brave. or at least stop offering 1.4 for download, its awful.

Why not give 1.5.8 a try? It works very well and is more 'stable' then the unstable imply.

OS ?
CPU?
memory?
free disk space on the drive you are saving the file to?
are your pictures in the same directory, sub directory as the scribus file?
all pictures jpg?
1.5.8 has an image cache setting that might help for your document?

Raster and Vector Graphics / error with many images
Last post by JL-MZ - September 23, 2023, 10:52:05 PM
Hello
I recently started using Scribus 1.4.8. My goal is to make a photo book of about 200 pages, each image is about 2MB. But from 140 pages, the images are no longer displayed, (we just see the name in red) as if it saturated. Is this normal, what is the limit?. If I try to make a PDF, it does not work. If I do not display the photos on the document, the problem is the same.
Excuse my bad English

What version of scribus are you using? In 1.5.8 i get to select all pages, single page, or a range of pages.

technically, it makes some sense (one is a paragraph setting, the other a character one)... but i must admit that i have found it by clicking around, not because i thought it was the most logic place for it.

Languages, Translation and Localisation / Re: String Freeze for Scribus ...

So for those who want to help translating:

The following languages seem to be fully translated and do not need further help:

  • Dutch
  • Esperanto
  • Chinese (China)
  • Slovenian
  • English (Australia)
  • Hungarian
  • Basque
  • English (United Kingdom)
  • Croatian (Croatia)

The following languages are almost fully translated (>= 98% that means less than 200 words to be translated) and contributing just a few words might help to get them to be 100%):

  • Portuguese (Portugal)
  • Ukrainian
  • Italian
  • Portuguese
  • Arabic

The following languages have more than 90% and if you really have some time you can try to bring them forward (and if several people do it it might get usable before the release of 1.6)

  • Polish (Poland)
  • Galician
  • Spanish (Spain)
  • Portuguese (Brazil)
  • German
  • German (Switzerland)
  • French
  • Norwegian Nynorsk (Norway)
  • Russian

(as an example, German still has about 1000 words to be translated but most of them seem to be names of languages that do not have a translation in Scribus...)

The other languages probably need more care and, depending on the type of strings that are still missing, it won't be easy to get them fully translated before 1.6 is released.
but: what is translated will be included and strings that are translated later will get into 1.6.1 : - )

What do you need to do if you want to help out? The "easy" way is:

- You need to create an account for Transifex (if you don't have one already)
- Join the "scribusstable" project.
- Find "your" language.
- Join the language.
- Ask to be a member of the language with the "dots menu" next to the "View Members" at the top right of the page.

And, of course, you can always get the .ts files from the Scribus source code (https://gitlab.com/scribus/scribus16/-/tree/main/resources/translations?ref_type=heads) and upload your translations to the bug tracker (https://bugs.scribus.net)
