Hello---found your response about the icons...I am new to Scribus and spent way too much time trying to find the controls for icon size (there isn't one!). Your solution has produced some nice results. It's still not updated in Scribus, though. Is there any chance that someone in the development team can put this in and issue a minor revision change?

We haven't changed the format so I think for now you could copy the file and change the version manually and try to open it in 1.5.8z

or open in 1.7 select all, copy, then open 1.5.8 open a new document and past, might need to add pages to make it the same number as the 1.7 version.

hi apastuzak

without guarantee! – but as scribus 1.7.0 is not that different from 1.5.8 you could try it the easy way:
  • just open a copy of your .sla file in an editor.
  • change the second code line from '<SCRIBUSUTF8NEW Version="1.7.0.svn">' to '<SCRIBUSUTF8NEW Version="1.5.8">'
  • save the file
  • open it in scribus 1.5.8 and check if everything looks as it should...

there is a good chance that this works well.

good luck!

Now the file will not open in Scribus 1.5.8. Is there any way to "backport" the file to 1.5.8?

Beginner Talk / Re: Easiest way to place text ...

I tried converting a graphic element to a text frame, but from what i could see this gives the same results as starting with a text frame.

I was thinking it might be an issue with having the font alignment looking more even in the frame. I had an issue like that and solved it be using caps, actually using caps and small caps, and the ascenders and descenders made the line look uneven in the frame. Keep in mind that most fonts have the spacing for them, the frame will always look somewhat offset from them.

Quote from: AdmFubar on February 24, 2023, 10:55:46 PMThe work around would be to add a filled frame graphic behind the text, sized to match your needs. Out of curiosity, what exactly is the use case you are trying to solve for with this text layout? And why the need for the text frame to be placed so tight to the text?

Thanks for your reply.
What you suggest is actually also how I have solved the task so far. Which is also evident from this thread. (But The thread is a lttle bit long, I know)
But obviously, if there was a way to skip a link, that would be preferable

Why I want it in this way? Because that's the taste that I have. You know the design that I like. This is probably also what characterizes a good DTP program - that it can do the things in an easy way of that the user has pictured in his head :-)

it's because in the console the functions and constants from the scribus namespace are loaded into the global namespace.

you could do that in your script, too... but, personally, i would advise you not to do it and put scribus. in front of each call of the scribus API: a bit more verbose, but IMO much easier to understand what is going on.

btw, since you're on the line: it would be a good idea to remove the

#!/usr/bin/env python3

at the beginning of your script.

this is only useful if you start the script from a terminal, but that is not possible since -- as you correctly let your script say a few lines later -- the script must be started from inside scribus.
