hard to tell – as long as we don't see what scribus does wrong.
your presented file looks almost correct. but there's still am offset of 1/32" from the folding line to the middle of the page. if it's just that what you 'tweak' by libreoffice, you should work with a central guide to resolve it.

how would you describe a bug?
what feature would you like to have?

I used a couple of your ideas. May incorporate others next week. Here's this week's final PDF. Unfortunately, I once again had to transfer the Scribus layout to LibreOffice Draw and "tweak" it to get it to output properly. I tried about fifteen different combinations of printer settings before throwing in the towel in Scribus.

Should this count as a "bug" worthy of reporting, or at least an official feature request?

Thanks! Not bad, not bad at all.

I'll be going with a near variant of my original design for the rest of this Advent season (consistency, y'know)...but I'm going to save this for future use. Thanks again!

Linux / Scribus 1.7.0 Flatpak
Last post by tim_occ - December 04, 2024, 09:54:57 PM
Hi all,

I made a Scribus 1.7.0 devel flatpak version*.
Currently, it was a first test to get familiar with flatpak, flatpak-builder and the whole process.

You can download the flatpak file here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1XzOHcQyW-GHjv26mqjWSZR0-xkzKY3oc

Install with:
flatpak install scribus_170_devel.flatpak

If you want to build the flatpak by yourself, you can check out the repo:
https://codeberg.org/Scribus/scribus-flatpak-devel

Have in mind, deploying a flatpak like this is not recommended. This flathub doesn't support nightly build we have to host our own infrastructure. Currently, I'm playing around with some CI systems to build nightly test versions, but it still requires some platform to deploy the flatpak. Right now, I did a manual build and just upload it to Google Drive.

DISCLAIMER
*) It is not the svn version. It based on the code hosted on https://codeberg.org/Scribus/scribus
In other words: It contains experimental features that are not reviewed and accepted by the core devs.

Quote from: ehbowen on December 04, 2024, 06:05:39 AMEven if my PDF reader is faulty, I would think that I should be able to output the file correctly to a local network printer direct from Scribus.

Unfortunately, printing directly from Scribus probably have more issues than using a PDF viewer. There has even been suggestions to remove printing completely from Scribus because it is not very reliable.

I don't even know how printing from Scribus handles bleed and Trimbox... I have never printed from Scribus.

Quote from: Nermander on December 03, 2024, 08:47:37 PMIf you are using bleed, not all PDF viewers handle this properly.

When you generate a PDF from Scribus, the bleed ends up outside the Trimbox defined in the PDF (the Trimbox will be set to the page size) and many PDF viewers ignore everything outside the Trimbox.

The normal recommendation is to "test" your PDF with Adobe Reader (but that is difficult if you do not have access to a Windows PC).

Quote from: AdmFubar on December 04, 2024, 03:24:52 AMgot to play around with you document. It printed correctly for me eventually.
Check your printer's print options. This seems to be where the issue is. Also the prepress options for pdf export, no printer marks selected, the document bleeds option isnt selected, I have and 1/8 in bleed set by the printer. it seems to print correctly for me. Also check the margins setting  in your print window, the Option button in the print window in okular should open another window with the first tab of Page, there margins settings are there. make sure they are set to the lowest amount for your printer.

I tried a few more tweaks to my original file. I got the pages to print properly centered and aligned...but they're still scaled about 70% of what they should be, even though the margin ruler on Scribus shows the proper page size. And, again, I was able to print essentially the same information transferred to LibreOffice Draw the first time with no trouble which makes me believe it's not anything inherent in the printer or driver. It could well be an erroneous setting, though...just haven't discovered which one as of yet.

Features / Re: Feature Request: Font Fold...
Last post by utnik - December 03, 2024, 05:04:36 PM
hi ehbowen

you're right. if you don't us a system wide font manager, scribus needs a bit too many clicks to disable the fonts you don't use. but once reduced to the most used fonts in scribus general settings, you may reduce the list (and apply supplementary fonts just project wise where needed...)
as you linked to the old forum post, i guess you saw my post there...

but as many ui changes are underway at the moment, it might be worth checking the old feature requests and revitalize the most promising of them.
