General Discussion / Search and Replace
Last post by marce colina - Today at 12:19:35 AM
Hi. Starting some weeks to learn Scribus.
Im importing some text, and want to replace some references that contain numbers that repeat and go increasing. In some other text editor you just use wildcards, that represent alphabetic characters, numbers, or whatever.
There is some wildcards that helps to make easy to replace things?
Thanks!

Just convert text to curves/outlines, and then export to pdf.

Thanks, I'm not sure how that happened. I trimmed it down to just the first page and saved it as a 1.5.x-1.6.x document this time: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1j25uU3C0qdSe8kCuMq2sr-mdK7sEBYzC&usp=drive_fs

In the process of doing so, I discovered deleting the a text frame on the left side of the page corrects the layout of the text in the table on the right. I don't have any idea why those elements should affect each other, though.

Thanks for the additional info.

From the guide lines of "How to address it:"
Bleed: You'll need to add a bleed area to your pages to ensure that any content that might be affected by creep stays within the printed area.
Margins: Ensure that important elements are placed within a safe margin, far enough away from the spine to avoid being obscured by creep.

It looks like there is general consideration for the issue, but not a page to page one.

Adobe Acrobat also says the fonts are embedded, so I'm leaning towards KDP being bitches.

I think you need to to reupload this file. I got 6 pages, the first of which has some guides on it.

PDF Generation / Scribus says fonts are embedde...
Last post by ThomB - May 23, 2025, 09:51:51 PM
I used Scribus 1.4.8 to do my book cover, and in the process, embedded JSL Ancient and Helvetica and Perpetua (though I did not use Helvetica at all) but when I uploaded it to KDP for my book, the kicked it back saying the used fonts were not embedded. I went ahead and did it again, but I'm sure it'll be the same response, since I'm using the same fonts and the same software. Does anybody have any guidance on this? TIA

The point with creep is that the content on pages needs to be moved to make sure the "outer margin" remains constant, and this also means that the "inner margin" is affected.

Back when I worked with doing impositioning scripts for postscript (they are in the wiki) I tried to incorporate support for creep, but it's been a few years and I have forgotten if the normal practice is to move the content in on the inner leaves (that stick out more) or out on the outer leaves (that stick out less).

Thanks! I'm excited to share that I just received the "Your book is now scheduled for release" email!

Regarding "Page Creep," I don't believe that applies to my case here, but I did learn something new. Thanks for the link!

I suspect that maybe you did not account for the creep that occurs when sheets are folded into signatures?

While this page mostly shows the outside creep, there will of course be similar creep in the fold, which affects any content that spans over two pages.

For optimal layout you would probably try to adjust the layout so any such content will appear on the innermost pages of a signature.
