Text and Typography / Variable Fonts only showing th...
Last post by hebrides - May 14, 2024, 03:42:08 PM
Hi all,
very new to Scribus but can't find an answer to this anywhere online.
I have a bunch of variable fonts (OpenType) that I'd like to use. But Scribus is only showing them in the thinnest weight. E.g. I'd like to use Source Sans 3 in 400/Regular and 600/Semibold, but all it's showing me is 200/Extralight.

I'm using the Content Properties window on my text frame, but I've also gone into File > Preferences > Fonts. I've tried adding the fonts again through Additional Paths there, but no joy. And I've checked the list; the only fonts it lists for Source Sans are Extralight and Extralight Italic.

The same issue is coming up for every 2-axis variable font I have; e.g. Montserrat only shows up in Thin and Thin Italic. I think the issue is that it's only reading along one axis, the italics; for variable fonts without an italics option I'm getting the thickness variations fine.

Anyway. If anyone can show me how to use regular old Source Sans 3, I'd be very grateful!

Isn't registration the sum of 100% inks that can be used (in this case C100%+ M100% + Y100% + K100% ?)
In any case, do you think I should report this to the MuseScore developers? In my opinion it should be treated merely as K100%, just as typical black text from word processing /desktop publishing software. But again, I am no expert in printing processes, so feel free to correct me.

As for my initial question, I seem to understand that there is no straightforward solution to my problem - I can achieve what I need only with workarounds, at the expense of file size and/or searchable text, correct?

hi pierruel

yes. you need a greek font (or a font with greek characters...)
you may install the font in your standard font directory or just place it in the same directory as the .sla file is stored.

can you post up a sample file?

it kinda sounds like it's related to an imported style

I don't use wine
if it's similar to the flatpaks maybe something like
"wine start /home/MyUserName/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Adobe/Photoshop 7.0/Photoshop.exe"

Hi utnik,
Sorry for the delay; I wasn't notified of an answer to my question. Thank you for answering.
I'm sorry I'm far from fluent in English neither writing nor reading.
I wrote on this forum the text I was willing to insert into Scribus using my latin, then greek keyboards, like this:
"C'est bien, persévère, μουσικὴν ποίει καὶ ἐργάζου, comme le songe disait à Socrate."
but it doesn't work inside Scribus. The 23 greek letters are replaced by empty squares.
I suppose that I should download a greek typeface into Scribus but I have no idea, how it can be done. Could you explain ? Many thanks in advance.

there is a space in the path, you prolly need quotes around that path

"/home/MyUserName/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Adobe/Photoshop 7.0/Photoshop.exe"

Linux / Editing image using Photoshop ...

Hi

Image Editor Problem ......

I have Scribus 1.6.1 installed on my Linux Mint 21.3 machine, and loving it!

I also am running Wine with Photoshop 7 installed in it, but I cannot figure out how to properly set up the External Tools image editor in Scribus to actually run the Wine installation of Photoshop as my Scribus image editor.

No matter what syntax I use, I can't get it to work.

Can anyone tell me what the "Name of Executable" should be in the External Tools image editor to run my Photoshop that's in Wine? I have tried "/home/MyUserName/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Adobe/Photoshop 7.0/Photoshop.exe" - it didn't work.

However, if I directly click on the Photoshop.exe file in this directory, Photoshop opens fine....

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks....

I apologize for the thread necromancy, but I am experiencing the same issues, but this time when importing Markdown into a Text Frame. I cannot seem to delete the red ampersand character, and it is creating what seems to be a bullet point in the text.

Not registration black - 4x100% ink.
It is a rich black for extra black offset printing.
I have also tried to import individual pdfs as curves (loosing all text) in Scribus and it looks fine, but I have not tested it in Acrobat.
