Transparency in PDF is a bit problematic, it is only supported by later PDF versions, and then for printing it depends on that the PDF viewer supports it.

Scribus does not have a "transparency flattener", which I assume means that Scribus cannot handle transparency in placed PDFs. You could look at flattening the PDF for example with Ghostscript first (I have no idea how to do it).

Any ways to make it less janky?

Like when i scrolling down on the document, it always scrolls up a little too; and vice versa.

It also scrolls way too quickly in pop-ups/dialogue windows.

It is making the app border-line un-usable for me.

Beginner Talk / Should I export PNGs with Drop...
Last post by IanicM - December 04, 2025, 03:52:50 PM
I am preparing a found document book and it will be featuring lost letters. For effect, I've been adding the Picture Frame Drop Shadows on each of them.
I usually set it like :

Shade 40%
Opacity 40%

Often, I group the text + logo + paper image and apply the Drop shadow to the group.

But now I'm starting to wonder if I should simply have the drop shadow part of the letter.png instead.

Any advice? I plan to print this book as a hardcover.

Tested with a simple text: in the current code there is a bug.

Would you mind opening a ticket in https://bugs.scribus.net ?

In an effort to create four-up artwork for printing, I generated a PDF from a Scribus document which had drop shadows on a number of the text objects and placed it in a Scribus document. The transparency failed with whatever combination of PDF setting I tried. Is there a way to do this?

In the end, I copied the objects from the Layers in the original Scribus document and pasted them into the four-up one. Cumbersome and not as elegant, it would require any changes to be made four times.

Or is there a better way to do this? Newby question.

TIA

Linux / Re: Template not showing up

I'm not used to templates... but I think that, for custom templates, you need to

  • configure a custom templates location in the Preferences > Paths
  • open the file in Scribus (from a temporary location...),
  • save the file as a template

Not sure if you can simply move the files into there... but i would definitively not add my templates to the the place where Scribus has its own templates.

General Discussion / Re: Remove Styles Unused

It usually comes down to the font or style not being fully applied. Try selecting the whole text frame, then re-apply the style or pick a different font just once and switch back. Scribus can be a bit picky, but this usually fixes the weird formatting jumps. Hope it helps!

Linux / Template not showing up
Last post by distronix - December 04, 2025, 01:53:19 AM
Ok, I have a lot to learn. Scribus seems to be very feature-packed, but it looks to be ideal for my purposes, once I get used to it. I used Aldus Pagemaker and before that Xerox Venture DTP, so I go way back in time. First I installed the native Debian version 1.6.3, and could not get the templates to appear. Then I thought it may be a quirk with Debian, so I am now running the Flathub 1.6.4, but the template still does not show. Here is the template.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<Template>
    <Name>TechGuide_6x9</Name>
    <Author>Your Name</Author>
    <Description>6×9 Technical Guide Template with margins, grid, and master pages.</Description>
    <Category>User</Category>
    <UseOrientation>true</UseOrientation>
    <File>TechGuide_6x9.sla</File>
    <Preview>preview.png</Preview>
</Template>

and the path ~/.var/app/net.scribus.Scribus/data/scribus/templates
.
└── TechGuide_6x9
    ├── preview.png
    ├── TechGuide_6x9.sla
    └── template.xml

What am I doing wrong?

Beginner Talk / New to Scribus, but not to DTP
Last post by distronix - December 04, 2025, 01:12:08 AM
Hi, this is my first post. I run Debian 13 with Gnome and Wayland, so I got the dark mode running without any drama. Scribus will be awesome once I get it configured properly. Hopefully, I can learn Scribus and get it doing what I need.

Thanks for a well supported forum.
