Nevermind, I traced the problem to a corrupted text box.

General Discussion / File opening hangs on 1.5.5 (on Ubuntu)
« Last post by Katewerk on October 20, 2021, 06:21:53 am »
I've been trying to open a 75 page document on Scribus that I've been working on for some weeks. It is generally slow to load, but now it's hanging completely. It stalls at 28%, then again at 35%... sometimes gets to 98%... but refuses to complete. I usually I give up and kill it  after several minutes of waiting. (I have several autosave versions, and backups of the file. Some are still loading but they're old versions and require a lot of repeat work.

I've read that 1.4.6 is the stable version. Is it worthwhile to uninstall 1.5.5, revert to 1.4.6 and try to open this document on the stable version? I'm at my wits end here. I've lost a lot of work.

I did try to search this issue, and found really nothing other than the undo function corrupting files. Which may be at the heart of what's happened here. Ugh.

General Discussion / Re: Will page imposition ever be a built-in feature?
« Last post by Nermander on October 19, 2021, 09:39:44 pm »
For booklet printing a lot of the available solutions work, but I have not found many solutions that can mange issues like creep and collating marks.

I made some scripts a few years ago (I think they are in the Scribus wiki) that did impositioning of postscript files, including creep, signature numbers and collating marks.

They used pstops for the core work, if someone would write a pdftopdf with the same features as pstops most of my scripts could probably be adopted to work on PDF. But I have not yet found a pdftopdf that supports all the options.

jPDKtweak comes close though, maybe more recent versions support command line options like pstops (I haven't looked into this for several years).

Thanks! I looked on my page and _did_ find those empty image blocks and blocks that were supposed to have images in them (but were empty themselves), and deleted _them_, and just as you said, the extra boxes are gone in the manager! I don't  know why I didn't ask this months ago!!  ;D

For many operating systems. Free download, some nag screens. But definitely better than turning Scribus unstable with unnecessary features.

PDF Generation / Changing Input Text Field Fonts
« Last post by SpaghettiCodeKing on October 18, 2021, 02:44:41 am »
I seek to export a PDF containing input text fields with arbitary font. Is this possible?

Mint 20 Cinnamin
Scribus 1.5.7

If I create a new doc,
Add a PDF text field,
Right click on it, choose PDF Options > Field Properties
Select any font  from drop down menu (labelled PDF 1.3)
and
File>Export>Save as PDF
On Fonts tab > Embed All
Save

But the font does not change.

I don't know why the font setting is qualified with PDF 1.3

I don't know why the font in the saved pdf file does not change nomatter what font setting I use.

Any help appreciated

Layout Issues / Links to pages in document
« Last post by Ged on October 17, 2021, 05:23:15 am »
I have a short paper divided into sub topics.  My first page is an index to each chapter.  So, I have created the links on the index page, however, the link always goes to the page following the one I directed it to.

I suspect this is something to do with page numbering but Im not sure how to fix it. I don't actually show page numbers and am assuming that the index page is #1.

Attached is the pdf.  Any help appreciated.

Imposition is difficult, I think it would just bloat Scribus to try to incorporate impositioning. And such a feature would then only be able to impose Scribus documents. It would seem a lot more useful with a separate software that can import any PDF.

As far as I understand, in almost all professional workflows the impositioning is done in the RIP. So it kind of makes more sense to not have impositioning in Scribus.

Use Scribus to design the document, export to a PDF and from that PDF do the impositioning. It's not the fault of Scribus that Okular does not have booklet printing.

I have to confess that I have not tried many other PDF Viewers than Adobe and Foxit, and they both support booklet printing. Can you give examples of other PDF viewers than Okular that do not support booklet printing?

Here is a thread giving lots of examples how to solve booklet printing under Ubuntu.

hi whyz

most probably those doubled images and empty frames are in your layout. you need to delete them there. (just move the image on page one and see, if there is another one below…)
if you cant find them on your pages, go to 'windows' → 'outline' and select them from there. a double click on an item in the 'outline' panel will select and center the item in your main window.
