Layers/calques

Hi,

I'm trying to prepare some layers/calques to insert titles or pagination info on a standard page.
Explanation in the wiki are not clear.
Do you know a simple tuto about that.

I know layer/calque concept from Gimp and this is very convenient, but here it is a little bit lacking of info!!
