Single Blank Page in PDF when Exporting

Hi!

I've created an 11 page document in Scribus, which I'm using for the first time. I'm used to other desktop publishing programs though, however, I will admit it's been a hot minute since using I've used them. The doc is for internet viewing primarily, so no worries about image size and quality.

I use the the "Export" command, not "Print as PDF". I'm viewing in Acrobat. I've also tried exporting as other formats and I'm running across the same issue. Everything is exporting beautifully! And this doc has multiple font changes, a few color changes, low and high quality images using multiple formats (jpg and png), and imported articles from several sources - including an PDF. All of that exports beautifully. No, what's being a pain is the cover/page 1 that has the least amount of text and two graphics, but they are the best quality ones and should be the easiest for the program to deal with (other than file size, perhaps).

Every time I export the file, this first page is blank. Everything else is fine. I've gone through multiple times and cannot find a blank text or image box. I built the file without using master pages, but I did try converting the front page to a master page and then applying it in the page properties. Didn't work. I've found some information about checking a box on the layers palette, but I can't find that in this current version of Scribus. (Not just the box, but the layers palette itself - I've been moving things using Item > Level). I do have an empty table on that page that I'm using for a border, but I used the same technique on other pages and they exported just fine. And when the file goes through the Preflight Verifier, the only errors that come up are the low quality graphics...nothing about issues on the cover page.

So, what am I missing? Any help is greatly appreciated!

I guess nobody  will know until you post (reduced) document with troublesome page and maybe other data needed as well.

In 1.6.4 version turning on/off the layers palette can be done via menu "Windows->Layers" or hotkey <F6>

Any job looks easy until you try doing it yourself.

I can think of a couple of reasons.

First, maybe the objects are on a layer set to not print. This also affects PDF export.

Second, what PDF version are you exporting to? Maybe the empty table has transparency (and the content is below it), and you are exporting to a PDF version that does not support transparency? Scribus does unfortunately not have a transparency flattener.

The second issue you can solve by moving the empty table to the bottom level.

Hard to say.

What you can do:

  • Save your document as "First page.sla"
  • Remove all pages but the first
  • Check that you can view the page in Scribus and it still does not export the content in the PDF
  • Upload the .sla here, without the images (you will publish it in the internets anyway...)
  • Let us check what is wrong there!
