Maximum Image File Size?

Windows 7 64-bit (16 GB memory)
Scribus 1.6.1
Image cache is not enabled.

I created a new doc, inserted an image frame, and dragged a file name onto the frame (TIF file).
File size 1.5 GB.  Scribus did not display the image.  It displayed the file's name.

Delete the frame, and insert a new frame.
Dragged a different file name.
File size 1.1 GB.  Scribus displayed the image.

So somewhere between 1.1 GB and 1.5 GB I hit a limit.

Is there a max image file size somewhere?  Is it adjustable?

Scribus might experience performance issues or fail to display very large images due to resource limitations. The specific behavior depends on your system's memory, processing power, and image format.
Resize the image to a smaller dimension while maintaining acceptable quality. Compress the image using lossy compression (JPEG) for photos, or lossless compression (PNG) for graphics, finding the right balance between size and quality. Newer versions of Scribus (e.g., 1.7.x or later) might have improved memory management or support for larger images. However, upgrading might not be an option if you rely on specific features in 1.6.1. While not recommended for most cases, disabling the image cache (Edit -> Preferences -> Display) might free up some memory for handling larger images, but with potential performance trade-offs. If you regularly work with very large images, explore software specifically designed for high-resolution graphics editing, such as Adobe Photoshop or Affinity Photo.
