Apache?
« on: June 14, 2013, 12:53:38 am »
I use Apache as my word processor. When I type a document and then try to insert it in Scribus, the document is grayed out and I can't place it. Does Scribus not recognize Apache or am I doing something wrong?

I beg to differ  Nermander, Apache is a form/or brakaway from OpenOffice. I have and use ApacheOpenOffice v3.4. It has everything that OpenOffice has and we can import with stiles into Scribus. it only needs to import a odt file and I seem to recall that there was some other settings before the Import and settings would work properly.

Haven't needed to use it for some time now.

But then it is not correct to just call it Apache. It's hardly even correct to call it ApacheOpenOffice. It should rather be Apache OpenOffice Writer (because that is the program used).

Calling it just Apache is like calling "Windows "Microsoft". (But on the other hand I do know a lot of people calling Internet Explorer just "Internet"....)

John R. - If you look at the Scribus Manual - via the Help menu - you can search for "get text" and click on the "Importing OpenOffice.org and ODF Files" suggestion (that's what it's called in version 1.4.2 anyway).

The article shows how to import things from Writer/Calc/etc. into Scribus and should get you up and running.

This wiki page gives a bit more info too: http://wiki.scribus.net/canvas/Using_the_Text_Filter , and this forum post might also be useful: http://forums.scribus.net/index.php/topic,742.0.html
