viliksar, could you explain a bit more about what your problem is please?

I can't tell if you're saying that the listed fonts which are on your system are not usable through Scribus, or if you simply don't have those fonts on your system.

For your information: Scribus doesn't come with any fonts included, it only uses those which are already present on your machine - either in the usual font folder(s), which depends on your OS and its configuration - or in the folder where your document is.

If your fonts are installed in a non-standard place then use "Preferences / Fonts / Additional Paths" to add the path to your fonts and restart Scribus. (You must have no document open to do this.)

Otherwise, if the fonts you listed were installed before you installed Scribus then it looks like Scribus may have rejected them as not being usable for some reason (and the reasons can be varied).

If you can give more details of what exactly is wrong we can probably help you more.

P.S. On Linux systems not all fonts are named as you might expect them to be. You may need to use an alternative.

I'm a newbie as well and I am having this (amongst others) issue as well.
I am not computer savvy so I'm really starting from square one.
I uploaded something called "Ghostscript 9.15" prior to uploading Scribus 1.4.4 onto my Windows 7 computer, as per the pre-amble instructions for Scribus loading onto Windows.
When i start up Scribus, I don't get any warning dialog box so Scribus must be happy with the Ghostscript 9.15.
How do I import a font from "the web" and install it into Scribus?
Thanks
Cheers
Mike

utnik,
Thanks for the quick reply.

I found the area to enter the info as per file/preferences/fonts/additional paths/add.

Now comes the usual "I'm not computer savvy" roadblock.

I don't know how/what path I should type in here.

I think Ghostscript 9.15 must have something to do with this.

I go into my C drive/program files/gs/gs9.15/ and then I have 8 files to choose from:
bin, doc, examples, lib, libpng, openjpeg, trio and zlib plus a 9th entity called "uninstgs"

Which one do I choose?

Thanks

Cheers

Mike

hi mike

you may install the missing font in the 'fonts' folder of your operating system, put it in the same directory as the .sla file and scribus will find it. if you place the font somewhere else, you need to tell scribus, where to search for it ('file' → 'preferences' → 'fonts' → 'additional paths') – don't mess around with ghostscript for this!

utnik,

Seen and thanks.

I just downloaded two test fonts and my windows 7 system automatically sent them to the windows file with all the other fonts.

Then, when I turned Scribus on and ran a test, both new fonts that were not in the Scribus list are now there, with no need to do the 'file' → 'preferences' → 'fonts' → 'additional paths' thing.

Thanks for the tip.

Cheers

Mike

Just to be clear - hopefully - the easiest way to install fonts for use in Scribus is to close Scribus, install the font using whatever the normal method is for your operating system, then re-open Scribus.

If you install a font while Scrbus is open, Scrbus won't know what you've done hence the "close first then open later" thing. This isn't a Scribus-specific issue, most applications work like this.

You only need to use the "Additional Paths" if you have installed your fonts in an unusual place.

However, the method of putting the font in the same folder as your document - as mentioned by utnik - might be best if you have a reason for it but if you're in any doubt just install fonts "normally" and don't worry about it.

That is what is working like a charm for me.
