How to use GitHub for version control with Scribus
« on: May 30, 2014, 03:30:18 pm »
I've just posted my latest tutorial on the Scribus Wiki.

It shows how you can use the "GitHub for Desktop" software to get version control for your Scribus documents (and other documents too).

You can find it here: http://wiki.scribus.net/canvas/How_to_use_GitHub_for_Version_Control_with_Scribus

Why not have a look and tell me what you think?

Why do I have to install a software plus the need for an Internet connection?

A proper naming system is sufficient:

my_document_petra_2014-06-13_01.sla
my_document_petra_2014-06-13_02.sla
my_document_petra_2014-06-13_03.sla
my_document_petra_2014-06-14_04.sla
my_document_petra_2014-06-15_05.sla

file_name_client_date_version.extent

Works with any software for more than 2 decades now...

And if that works for you - and I use a similar system myself - then that's great, but it does no harm to know there are alternatives or learn new techniques that might be useful in the future.

P.S. The GitHub for Desktop software doesn't require an internet connection in use unless you're syncing (which the tutorial doesn't cover).

I agree with GarryP. Knowledge of git/svn is useful in many ways. Thanks again for the tutorial, Garry!
