Title: Text variables to be used in Lists Of Contents
Post by: Flaxx on August 19, 2026, 12:50:38 PM
Hi there,
Text variables can be quite helpful, but unfortunately they can't be used as part of the list of contents. I've even tried editing the file sources and failed.
Example:
While producing a monthly newsletter, we have e.g. a headline like "Birthdays in <month>" and others using the same variable in a usually static text environment. This works (more or less) nice. The same header transferred as attribute to be used in the list of contents doesn't work - a nice spot you have to edit each month again manually, being a potential source of errors.
It would be even better, if date formats could react interactively.
In our header we use the next months as a number, repeated automatically on following pages and being part of Master Pages. For the above mentioned purposes we need it as well formatted as text (e.g. "10" --> "October") and as well as "<month-1>" = "September" for our editorial deadline. All of this is possible in typical office packages.

A last wish in this context: Please make such marks, anchors etc. visible when the non printable signs are switched to be visible.
