My pre-flight verifier has dozens of messages with the text "Image has progressive encoding". I know what progressive encoding is, so:
1. Why is it a bad thing in Scribus? Ignoring them doesn't seem to have any bad effect on the PDF or the printed document.
2. Since I routinely ignore those messages, can I suppress them?

hi henrylaw
you'll find those settings under 'preferences' → 'preflight verifier'. here you can define a profile for every .pdf version.

That setting is not selected in document setup or preferences, yet it still displays the error message.

hi henrylaw
are you sure you checked the same profile in the settings as when you exported your document? it may be different for every .pdf version.
(on my computer it's unchecked for all versions and it never shows up as a warning...)

I'm embarrassed that I missed that. What a rookie error. Thank you.
