Title: Drop shadows causing lag
Post by: AlShamar on April 03, 2026, 12:35:42 AM
Hi I'm wondering if anyone can help.

I am in the process of creating a 100 page document and all of the text will need to have a drop shadow. I'm barely on page 3 and am already noticing the lag and the programme is getting sluggish and frustrating and it'll not doubt get worse when I start adding images and the pages i need fill.

Is there any way that I can either add more memory to the programme or find a way to stop the programme rendering the drop shadows so that I can complete the doc knowing the shadows are there even if i cant see them? Any help suggestions or hints would be greatly appreciated.

Need more info.
Are you add drop shadows to all the text or just certain sections of text?

Are the text boxes linked? and are they in columns?

I've created a 100 page document on my machine in 1.7.1 and added some text. It doesn't seem sluggish to me, but i may not be recreating exactly what you have in your document.

If you have started adding the shadowed text that might be the cause. You can try creating a style for the shadowed text, not actually include the shadow option for the text. Apply the style as needed. Then after you have your layout "finished" you can edit the style to include the shadow. This may speed up the responsiveness of scribus.

What version of scribus are using and what os and version is on your computer.. System specs will help as well.
