Title: Is it possible to remove child paragraph style customization?
Post by: Lynn on January 24, 2026, 03:10:31 PM
I have some base "template" files I've made for book typesetting and I realized that at some point I went and manually set the font size for the "scene start" and "chapter start" styles, which really ought to be inheriting everything from the normal paragraph except it's indentation. I looked around and couldn't find anyway to un-customize them within the program.

Obviously I could re-associate them with the parent style (which would reset all the settings) and then set up the style again, but is there some other way within the program to tell Scribus "whoops, refer back to the parent style for this setting, ignore what I typed here?"

(What I'm actually doing to fix it is open the .sla files in notepad and remove the FONTSIZE="10.5" lines within the style description, but that's obviously a bit hacky)

(I use Scribus 1.5.8 usually, but I do have an appimage of 1.6.1 I use on occasion, if that makes a difference. I need to update Linux Mint so I can get a more recent scribus directly from the repo, been busy with other stuff)

I can't find a way to "reset" only one setting to the inherited one, but re-selecting what style it inherits from seems to reset everything to the inherited values.

I tried for example clearing out the field, but it went back to the previously manually set value.
