Title: Best way to use an Illustrator file
Post by: Aquilegia on November 19, 2025, 09:56:55 AM
Hello,
I have to continue a job done with adobe illustrator (a newspaper layout, with a lot of text). I really would prefer to do it with Scribus, but I cannot find a way to import the file correctly.
The text can be either a very poorly transfered text from pdf, for which I have to do all the layout again, or an image. The .ai file does not open correctly at all, or just refuse to open.
What would be the best way to proceed?

Thanks a lot.

The best way to go from Adobe layouts to Scribus is to use the Adobe own .idml format.

But I'm not sure if Illustrator can export to it.

Maybe, you have to first get your work into InDesign and from there export it to .idml.

You could also check if you can copy paste your text into a LibreOffice Writer document and get it from there into a Scribus text frame.

Thanks, but I don(t have InDesign, and Illustrator does not have this format. For the moment, my best result was with EPS, but it is still not very good.

Did you try to copy paste the text from Illustrator to LibreOffice Writer or Miscrosoft Word?
From there it might get formatted into Scribus...

Just a wild idea...

That's an idea, but I need format and place in the document, so it cannot work. With the EPS, I have part of the information and I will just copy what is missing (essentially font size).
Thanks for the help!
