Title: Issue with Scribus Color & Effects Menu on HP Laptop
Post by: akhilvtk on October 19, 2025, 06:29:15 AM
Hi everyone, I have two systems: a desktop and an HP laptop and both have Windows 11, 25H2. I've noticed an issue with Scribus under the Color & Effects menu. On my laptop, the dropdown menu only shows three colors, whereas on my desktop, there are significantly more options available.

I've attached a screenshot for reference. Could anyone help me understand why this discrepancy exists and how I can resolve it on my laptop?

Thanks in advance!

As far as I remember, Scribus does not have a default color set, the available colors are the colors that are defined in the document. There are pre-defined color sets you can import.

So my guess is that the two screenshots are from two different documents, not the same document on two different PCs.

hi akhilvtk

scribus comes with a whole lot of predefined color sets. the one showed on your desktop pc is called 'scribus small'. it contains the basic colors of the rbg and cmyk world, white and 'registration'. (afaik this is the standard, when you install scribus...)
on your laptop you may have clicked on the button 'remove unused'...

to select your standard color set:

When all documents are closed, open "Edit > Colors and Fills".

You can then choose "Scribus Basic" for your future documents.

For the exiting documents where you're missing colors, just go to the same "Edit > Color and Fills" and merge in a Color set of your like.

But, in most case, after having playing around with Scribus you will probably want to define your custom colors. And, more often than not, they are specific to a project (so, you probably don't want to use a color set that is too big...).

P.S.: This time it was utnik the faster one : - )
