Title: Scribus and PAC 2024
Post by: knee_boarder on August 18, 2025, 11:30:29 AM
Hi,

As a complete newbie to Scribus, can Scribus be used to remediate PDFs to pass PAC 2024 please?

PAC 2024 https://pac.pdf-accessibility.org/en is a free PDF Accessibility Checker which is the industry standard for checking a PDF is accessible to users of assistive technology.

Kind regards,

Steve

Scribus main goal has always been to be used for printing, making accessible PDFs is kind of the opposite of precise positioning of text, so I really doubt accessible PDFs is a prioritized area.

On top of what Nermander wrote, Scribus is NOT a PDF editor.

Yes, it can open PDFs and it can export to PDF.
But it's not the right tool AT ALL for doing small changes to an existing PDF (with very few exceptions).

Since online PDFs are more and more important, it would not be a bad idea for Scribus to care about accessibility, but we need contributors who dive into it and tell us how we can implement it (IN DETAILS!), if possible without impacting the printing worfklow.
Contributing code is even more welcome.

Thank you for the really helpful replies :)

While I can remediate a document to pass the PAC 2024 accessibility checker, print is way off my area and I don't think I could explain the whys to the level you'd require, but I do agree with you about the importance of accessibility.
