Title: Maintaining layout only (not content) of a PDF import
Post by: zenny on November 30, 2024, 07:15:11 AM
Hi,

I just imported a PDF from my old designs (the original were lost) as vector image, but could not figure out to maintain the old page layout only, but not contents. Is there a way to do so?

I tried grouping the layout, but the sections that contains texts also get grouped together. I want to fill-in new contents by using the layout as a placeholder.

Thanks and Cheers,
/zenny

hi zenny

you may take the imported document as a 'reference layer'. but i think you have to rebuild the layout on top of it (and delete the 'reference layer' or at least uncheck visibility and printing...)

'page' → 'snap to items' may help a little bit.

i don't know a faster way – sorry!

@utnik Thanks for the prompt reply.

I got a notion from your reply that it would be easier to create a new document from scratch than relying on the one imported from PDF.

Anyway, I appreciate if you have any idea to trace just the layouts from the imported vector image in Scribus, similar to `Trace Bitmap`in Inkscape? Just curious and have a nice day.

hi zenny

depending on the .pdf you may keep the vector graphics.
an imported .pdf file is a group of items. you need to ungroup them (sometimes you have to do this more than one time) to reach the desired sub-group or single item...
