Title: Placing columns in multiple linked text boxes
Post by: Stranger on October 10, 2024, 04:20:33 PM
Hi,

I have a Scribus document with a lay out of multiple linked text boxes.

I would like to put columns throughout the document, but I am unable to have the columns feature on more than the one text box (although they are linked).

When I carry out other operations, changing the font for example, the changes are immediately carried out to all linked text boxes. Is there no way to do this?

Thanks in advance if anyone knows how to do this.

best solution i can think of off the top of my head, is to use a master page.
add an extra blank page with a text frame in it the size needed for your other pages, and edit the frame properties to add the number of columns needed. in the page dropdown in the main menu bar,  select convert to master page.
once you have the master page set up you can apply it to the rest of your document. again in the page menu, select the apply master page, a window will open and you can select the master page you wish to apply in the drop down menu.then you just need to apply the master page to the rest of the document.
There is a range option, you need to click the select all option to activate the range parameter.

If your document isnt a facing page layout you wont have to worry about make a left and right master pages to keep the margins in the right order.

Thanks a lot, will try that (and have also simply been doing it page by page, as there are left and right pages and also differences in the text box lay outs).

this can't work!
in scribus you can't populate master page elements with individual page content.

Ah yes.. plus there is that weird quirk where it moves text columns off the page..
However if you add new pages with multiple text columns then cutting and pasting the text into them should work. Then one can just delete the old pages.
