Title: Scribuis 1.5.8 producing PDFs that lock up Adobe Reader
Post by: PastaShock on March 14, 2023, 02:56:37 PM
I create my own stamp album pages using Scribus. I export to PDF and then print them out.

The pages work just fine in Apple Preview (Mac), Foxit PDF Reader (Mac, Windows and Linux), and Evince (Linux). They will open in Adobe Reader on Mac. But when I try to print them out in Adobe Reader, the app locks up with the spinning beach ball, and I have to force quit it.

I have not had a chance to try Adobe Reader on Windows yet.

Has anyone seen anything similar?

by any chance are you using footnotes in this document?

I am not.

You can download the PDFs from my website https://www.stamphacks.com. The US Letter 2022 or 2021 supplements will lock up Adobe Reader on Mac for me.

I see it is a 1.6 version of a pdf. Have you tried saving and 1.4 or 1.5 versions to see if it would load?

I don't have Acrobat
I did see that the sla file had some frames and elements going off the page margins.
It took a little ditteling to get the master pages reformatted and sorry, I can't tell if that made any difference.

Nice web site and looks like you put in a ton of work on the project.

So, to update this, I'm still having the issue with 1.6.2. But something that seems to "fix" the problem for me is this.

I bought a Mac app called PDF Squeezer. I run the PDF through PDF Squeezer and the output it generates works just fine in Adobe Reader.

Then I got to the root of the problem and just removed Adobe Reader and replaced it with FoxIt PDF Reader.
