Beginner Talk / Re: Switch the default position to the right side of the screen
« Last post by Spilly on June 12, 2021, 06:32:44 pm »
I'm guessing an answer here...

I think window positioning might be more an OS function that an application function

My guess is that the OS may tend to remembers the position of each application window
Scribus uses multiple windows - main text, f2 & f3 palettes are all windows, Text Editor window etc
I THINK, but don't know for sure, that each window is positioned as an +/- offset from 0,0 of the primary window
so the OS likely "sees" a 2 screen system as one large screen, with windows offset from 0,0

I find I can dock the f2 & F3 palettes beside the main Scribus window and switch between f2 & f3 with a click on a tab

I've found curious behaviour when my system sleeps.
On screen dim, after a while the extension screen auto-powers off
When that happens, on wakeup I find all windows are relocated to the main screen & the extended screen is empty
- probably caused by the loss of power for the 2nd screen

If I wake up before that auto-power off, all the window positions are maintained.

Layout Issues / Re: How to easily add image frame to 100+ pages

Hello - this is a classic problem for which scripter is the solution.

If you think about the repeated actions *as a user* - they go something like this:
  • On the current page create an image frame at *some position* with *some size*
  • load an image into this frame
  • resize the frame and/or image
  • create the next page and go to there ready to start again

If you create a new scribus document with one page - then select Script Menu > Show Console and run this (with your image file name):
Code: [Select]
# create the image frame .. parameters are x,y,width, height - using the units of your document (mine are mm)
someImageFrame = createImage(10, 10, 100, 100)
# load the image into the frame just created - note the forward slashes for windows (file type can be anything you can do manually)
loadImage('D:/Some/path/to/my/images/processed001.eps', someImageFrame)
# scale the image to the frame size (there are ways to scale the frame to the image
setScaleImageToFrame(scaletoframe=1, proportional=1, name=someImageFrame)
# add a new page (uses default master page if not named)
That automates all of the user actions listed above. All of the scripter functions are here: Have a look at the definitions of the commands I used in the script - and you should be able to see how they work. For example - click on 'Images' in the left hand menu and the first function listed is 'createImage'

You *could* just create a massive script (in notepad) with that block repeated 106 times - with a different file name each time and paste it into the console - this would work but only really as a one off. What I do is I have a list of the image file names and I get the script to open that list and loop through each file and insert each one - again you can do this directly in the console... but that soon gets hard to manage. If you want to do this more often and potentially add more layout / frames / styling etc you will want to save the script (as '') and execute the script as needed.

Announcements and Forum Rules / Story Editor text gone after save or exit

Fedora 34, Scribus I have used Scribus for many years. I use it for my club magazine. When I go into Story Editor to change text size or colour etc. then when I save or ctl/W the highlighted text has disappeared from the text frame. This was not a problem before the update. :(

I would create the frame and place it correctly on one page, then send to scrapbook.

Then for each page where the frames is to be added, a double click in in the scrapbook is the only extra action needed in addition to the Get image you would still have to do (since each frame will have a different image).

If the frames were already added, you would still have to select every frame (single click) and do Get image.

But I have to confess I am not sure wheter a frame inserted from the Scrapbook autimatically becomes selected.
Layout Issues / How to easily add image frame to 100+ pages

I need an image frame added to 106 pages. Each frame will contain a different image. How can I do this without having to manually add an image frame in the exact same spot on each page.
General Discussion / How define styles for TEXT FRAME?
« Last post by royer11 on June 11, 2021, 07:09:16 pm »
Hello to the entire scribus community, is there a method to define a style for the TEXT FRAMES by default? I mean the borders, background colors and others. Below I attach reference images.

The thing is that I create the object and I want to duplicate as much as I want. Unless you make a copy and paste of it

I don't know whether this is just me, but I like to work at documents at, essentially, actual size on my screen.  I originally had a title page Master Page set at 14 pt. size height (about 3/16") and the text fame in the document also set at 14 Pt.

I decided to increase the point size to 18 to make it larger (about 1/4") and edited both the Master Page and the Properties window for that text frame in the document to 18 pt.  Nothing changed, the text remained at the 14 pt. height.  To see if I could register a difference, I ran them both up to 20 pt. and even 24 pt., which would have been noticeably larger than 18 pt. Nothing changed, the text stayed at about 3/16" or 14 pt.  I checked the text frame's dimensions to see if somehow they were crowded; they both had sufficient size for 18 pt.

I set it at 20 pt., even though it wasn't, and ran a PDF test print to see if the true size would register, it didn't, still 14 pt.  What's happening?

To throw another wrench into this, the text is copy and paste from a LibreOffice document that was also originally composed with 14 pt type size.  I went back into the LO document and changed the point size there.  Nothing changed size-wise in the LO document either, it stayed at about 14 pt (3/16") too.  Can there be something stuck in the copy and paste translation?

Hi Utnik,

I couldn't find it, but I found other recovered files with the directory (if that is the right word), i.e. name_autosave_mm_dd_yyyy_hr_min.sla.

Knowing nothing about the inner workings of my computer, I still used Apple's Finder>Find and entered in finally just .sla.  I'm pretty sure that brought up everything and I could see plenty of autosaves and recoveries over the years but nothing with my current file name except for that "file name.sla" itself where none of the day's pre-crash work was saved.

I have gone back into Preferences>Document Setup more than once to check Saving & Undo to see if autosave is activated.  Here is what I have there:

checked- "Try to save "Emergency File" in case of a crash"
checked- "Enable automatic saving of documents"  Interval: 10min.  Number of files to keep: 1
selected- "Save into the same directory as the document"  Not selected- "Save into" (blank)
Not checked- "Keep backup files after closing the document"
Not checked- "Show autosave countdown clock on the canvas"

I have checked (activated) the last two choices above.

Going to the document itself I can't see anywhere that the "countdown clock" appeared.  I tried typing in a few characters into a text box and deleting them and leaving the document, nothing changed.  I tried closing both the document and Scribus itself and re-opening both, still no clock, but I did get the crash report/recovery window that asked the same questions about documents already recovered.

In the meantime I think I'll manually hit the File>Save option with greater frequency now.

I did notice that the master pages character fonts and point sizes held, but in the document itself the text frame characters went haywire devolving back to Ariel and exaggerating the point sizes.

I'm not sure but I think autosave might be affected by whether there is a Signal 6 or Signal 11 crash, Signal 6 might save, but not Signal 11.

Text and Typography / Multiple select for text
« Last post by Ewac on June 10, 2021, 11:50:22 am »
I am creating a songbook and I'm using different paragraph styles for chords, text, headings,... Now I cannot select multiple seperate paragraphs to change them together to the same style. The usual "ctrl+select" doesn't work, neither in the text frame directly or in the text editor. Am I missing something? Right now I have to change every paragraph individually, which takes extremely long.
Have not been able to find a solution for this...any help is appreciated.
Hi everyone,

Running Scribus on an Asus laptop running Windows 10 with a second screen. I keep it on my remote screen so I can use the laptop screen for other apps.

However, whenever I open Scribus, while the work screen pops up on the right, the Layers Manager Window and Properties Manager Window both appear on the left side of the laptop window.

Is there any way to shift the default location of these to the right side of the remote screen?

Thanks in advance!!!
