General Discussion / What is "Extended Image Properties"
« Last post by DIYPlanner on June 18, 2021, 05:11:34 pm »
I recently found this menu item "Extended Image Properties" under "Item>Image" menu, but I can't make sense what it is used for.I looked up the help file, search for this function, and just found this sentence, but I can't understand as well:
"Vector masks are also detected and can be used to control the display within Extended Image Properties."
Who can explain it in plain words and tell me what its usage is,thanks in advance!

Did you try to export to PDF?

Scribus displays a lower resolution preview when editing (this is configurable).

General Discussion / Re: How define styles for TEXT FRAME?
« Last post by Nermander on June 17, 2021, 10:07:46 pm »
I didn't check the example, I just read the text "is there a method to define a style for the TEXT FRAMES by default?".

And that question is what I responded to.

General Discussion / Re: a humble inquiry regarding 1.6
« Last post by utnik on June 17, 2021, 05:57:45 pm »
hi ykonoclast

i'm not a developer and have no higher insight on the roadmap to 1.6.
but i use scribus since 1.3.x and in early times i never changed to a so called 'unstable' version for my real work. then i needed one of the new features from the upcoming version 1.4.4 (export to .pdf/x-1a) and compiled it for macOS (which was really hard for me as i had no idea how to do it…)
after that i had always the last 'stable' version and something newer. as there is no version officially called 'stable' running on a recent (64-bit-only) macOS, i work now with 1.5.8.svn and have 1.5.7 and as fallback versions – just in case…

i don't recommend for everyone to go that far, but if you can't wait to work with the new text engine or the much improved 'properties' palettes you might switch to 1.5.7, as it runs reliably (maybe more stable than some earlier 'stable' releases…)
you might not switch to .svn releases and keep in mind that different development releases may show some small layout differences…

Text and Typography / Re: Any guide to quickly applying styles?

hi owen

…Is this how it is supposed to work?

no, normally it is not – but you may have applied a paragraph style and a character style to your text. if you did so, i would expect what you describe.
separate character styles should be used when only a part of a paragraph needs to be formatted in a special way. (and then you wouldn't like to see this special formatting disappear when changing the paragraph style…)

if my guess is right, just define your standard character settings as a part of the paragraph style. i recommend that you should never apply a separate character style to a whole paragraph.
