Title: Hebrew page numbers
Post by: heshy507 on April 15, 2019, 04:00:02 PM
I am trying to create a Hebrew booklet on Scribus 1.5.4., and it seems that it would be impossible for me to number the pages with Hebrew letters instead of numbers (it is standard for certain Hebrew publications to be numbered in this manner). is there any way for me to do this? and can this be suggested as a development idea, as part of the ongoing support for RTL languages.

mmm... that should be possible...

have you had a look at "file > document settings > document setup > sections"?

Here i have created a list of letter-digit conversions, they just need to be plugged in.
is there a way for me to do this on my own?

for the ones' place:
1   א
2   ב
3   ג
4   ד
5   ה
6   ו
7   ז
8   ח
9   ט
0   -none-
for the tens' place:
1   י
2   כ
3   ל
4   מ
5   נ
6   ס
7   ע
8   פ
9   צ
for the hundreds' place:
1   ק
2   ר
3   ש
4   ת
5   תק
6   תר
7   תש
8   תת
9   תתק
for the one thousands' place use the same number system as above, only add an apostrophe after the thousand place.
for example:
א'קפב would represent 1,182
ה'תשעטwould represent 5,779 (the current hebrew year)

Yes i have. there all kinds of styles, but not hebrew.

you might be lucky : - )

this patch might be what you need:

https://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=15664
https://github.com/scribusproject/scribus/commit/2d99ee6a3e04236820328be1a80be1add269a39e

if you're using linux you can get a current snapshot as an appimage from:

https://gitlab.com/scribus/scribus/-/jobs/205835585/artifacts/browse

the appimage still has some issues (mostly related to the forced gtk theme) but you should be able to see if what you need is in there : - )
(the link is only valid for one week from now)

for windows and mac os there will be snapshots in

https://sourceforge.net/projects/scribus/files/scribus-svn/1.5.5.svn/

but at the time of writing the latest one does not have the patch yet.

Is there any way for a muggle like me to use this, or i need to ask a friend to explain it to me?

with a friend it will be more pleasant...

i'm trying to find out, if the change i've linked above solves your issue, but there are good chances that the next scribus will have hebrew numbers.

one question: which os are you using? linux? windows? mac os?

ciao

i have the confirmation that the newest version should have the patch that allows you to use hebrew numbers in scribus.

jean will be uploading a snapshot for windows in here:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/scribus/files/scribus-svn/1.5.5.svn/

it will have a date after may 1st 2019.

download it and replace you current 1.5.x scribus with it.
