Free discussion / Libre Graphics Meeting 2025 in...
Last post by nitramr - March 17, 2025, 12:38:32 PM
Let's use this thread to collect possible topics for a workshop at the Libre Graphics Meeting 2025 in Nuremberg. More infos about it here:
https://www.libregraphicsmeeting.org/2025/

@a.l.e suggested the following topics:
  • fixing the floating palettes for tiling window managers
  • how to make the popup in the colors selection ready for release (i think that there is not much missing there)
  • how to publish a documentation that can (easily) be maintained by multiple contributors
    • Porting and translating "Initiation à Scribus" by Cédric Gémy
    • factsheet / factsheet extended (with todos)
    • targetting epub?
    • having a nice "template" for the covers (in a similar way to the O'Reilly's animals)
    [/llist]
  • tables (establishing a long term plan (what should be supported?) and how to get there in big or small steps)

I would like to add another topic for discussion:
[/list]

Yes, the button (O) I circled is for adding an outline to the characters, the one to the right of it (S) is for adding shadow.

Ok, by zooming in, I saw what you're looking for.

Then, it's exactly what Nermander showed.
You have to activate the outline and then set a color for it.

Something like what?

Would it be possible to post an image of what you'd like to achieve?

Beginner Talk / Re: Dragging page around and z...

hi

the feature with the "automatic" zooming in and out sounds interesting.
even if i believe it's more useful for vector drawing rather than for page layout.

for page layout, i would prefer the way scribus zooms in.
press the "z" key and draw a rectangle area: that will be the new view area it zooms into.
(but i admit that i never use it: i always do ctrl-mousewheel (or control-move two fingers on my laptop))

what i think is missing: going back to the previous view area.
maybe there should be some sort of parallel undo for the zoom.

since the zoom tool is always sticky (or at least it is per default), one way to do that, would be to hijack the ctrl-(shift-)z while the zoom tool is active and get it to wander through the history of the zoom levels.
(the zoom tool being the magnifier in the toolbar, which is activated with the "z" key mentioned above.)

and if we're already at that, we could get scribus to recognize the "return" key while the zoom tool is active: pressing it, would zoom to the currently selected item(s). if any.
you'd get the other feature you mention, too.

i'm not sure i would think about it, when i mostly would need it (and i would keep fighting with my two fingers moving around gently on the trackpad and missing the right zoom level), but i think that the feature might not be too hard to implement.

on the other side, panning (aka "moving around the page") is already possible in scribus:

  • you can hold down the middle key of your mouse and move the canvas (the page...) around
  • on most track pads it's done with a double or triple touch (on my laptop i only to gently caress the track pad and move my two fingers around...)
  • you can also press the space key and get into panning mode: then it's a "normal click" that will let you pan the canvas

i don't think that we need more of it : - )
