Free discussion / Re: Frame of image tool gets printed cut on 2 sides.

We have had a similar discussion just recently here: https://forums.scribus.net/index.php/topic,4168.msg19348.html#msg19348

The user didn't post a feedback, so I assume that the problem originated in the image itself (too small, low resolution). Obviously, my supplied *.svg file solved the problem.

You seem to be focused on how you can do in MS Word.

Scribus uses UNICODE representation for glyphs and the fonts needs to contain the glyph you want for it to show.

So essentially you need to insert the corresponding character (with the relevant character code) and then manually change the font to Wingdings2.

General Discussion / Re: Unable to print images on certain files on Mac only

Ok, I have a workaround. I installed Foxit PDF Reader for Mac. And I have to say it's output on both my printers looks significantly better than either Adobe Reader or Apple's Preview when printing my Scribus files.

Still would like to know what's up with these files.

I use Scribus to design album pages for stamp collectors and then give them away for free on website.

Something strange is happening with the album pages I generate for United States Stamps. Whenever I print pages on my Mac from Scribus generated PDFS, none of the jpg images on the pages will print. They print just fine on my Windows PC and my Linux laptop. Only the Mac is affected.

I am using Apple's Preview to print them. I wanted to try another PDF viewer, so I installed Adobe Reader DC for Mac. The files open just fine, but when I try to print them, Adobe Reader locks up and nothing ever prints.

Stamp pages I make for Ukraine, print fine on all platforms as PDFs.

To make the pages, I am using a great tool that allows me to enter stamp information into a LibreOffice Calc Spreadsheet. It then creates a text file with information, and a python script you run in Scribus creates all the stamp boxes.

If you go to https://www.germanstamps.net/ and click on PMGS Products, you'll find the tool.

I was wondering if someone would be able to look at my Scribus file and PDFs and see if they can figure out what's goign on.

If you go to my website here:

https://stamphacks.com/wp/?p=1639

You can download the US 2007 supplement I just released.

The zip file contains the images, the Scribus file, the PDFs, and the PostmasterGS tool I am using.

I am using the font Adobe Source Sans 3 on these pages, which is an open source font from Adobe.

https://github.com/adobe-fonts/source-sans

My Mac is an Intel Mac, running MacOS 12.1 with Scribus 1.5.7.  I have the same issues on two different printers.

If you need more information, please let me know.

And yes, I will accept critiques of my pages. But I'm pretty far into it at this point, so there is not much I can do. But constructive criticism is always welcome.  I am most definitely an amateur.

Beginner Talk / How to glyph

Brand-new user, and having read the manual and wiki I'm stuck on how to insert a glyph.  To make it simple I created a text box and in the Edit-Insert mode I pulled up the Windings2 font set that has the symbol I want - a box with an X in it.  I can double click and insert it but in the edit window all that shows up is an empty box and the same in the main window.   When I try to print-preview it says "missing fonts" yet the Wingings2 font is there when I look in File-Preferences-Fonts.

I must be missing a step but can't figure out what - thanks for any help!

Set the scratch space on the left side to something like 100 mm.

Tutorials, Tips and How-Tos / How to Create an Outline in a PDF with Scribus
« Last post by HiddenPlane on December 15, 2021, 03:17:57 am »
Thank you, Scribus community, for this product and for your help. I'm at the end of a 270 page self-publication, and I made it with no major hiccups. My last hurdle was the TOC Table of Contents and an Outline that shows up in the PDF left bar that's clickable for navigation. The help documentation doesn't cover how this comes together, so this tutorial will fill in the gaps. You CAN do this now.

Disclaimers: I'm using 1.5.7.
This works on text frames, but works best on Title Bars, because the text becomes the Outline name.
This tutorial is a bare bones demonstration of the functionality.
I'm exporting PDF 1.6 compatibility.

  • Select a text frame on your first page. I selected "Table of Contents."
  • Ribbon: Item -> PDF Options => Click Is PDF Bookmark
  • Select a text frame on your second page and set that to bookmark, also. I selected "Chapter 1: Foreword."
  • Select a text frame on your third page and set that to bookmark, also. I selected a sub-element of Chapter 1.
  • Ribbon: Windows => Bookmarks. You should see the three items you set as bookmarks. Drag #3 on top of #2. This sets your sub-element of Chapter 1 as a child item of the Outline hierarchy.
  • Ribbon: File -> Export => Save as pdf (Do not forget this next step or it won't work.)
  • In the Main tab of the pdf export menu, CHECK ON "Include Bookmarks!"

Done. Now when you view your PDF, you should have an Outline with 2 elements and a sub-element child of the 2nd. When you click on any of the Outline elements, they will navigate you to the page with that element's text frame:
    Table of Contents
- Chapter 1: Foreword

I'd check the suspected images in a separate image viewer. I'll bet they have a bit of a black border around them. The collection you have may have been scraped off a site and may have a few with flaws in them for the scrapers to grab.check the images and let us know what you find.

Go to the menue option of file/preferences/document setup , in the dialog window that opens click the scratch space tab and see if the scratch space around the document  it set to zero. When i set these to zero the document jumped to the upper left and stayed there.
