Beginner Talk / Re: Importing idml as well as the images and fonts - New to Forums :)

Hello,

Okay, I spent half the day editing.
What I did was open the PDF version indesign file in Scribus then I manually changed all the text/format.

I'm stuck now.  Does anyone have a simple way to connect a text frame to another part of the SLA file or pdf file?
Basically looking to manually make a table of content.

Sorry again for the noob question, I just can't find an easy solution or a solution I understand.

EDIT:  Okay, I figured out how to setup a TOC/Bookmarks

Now when I try to do the internal hyperlink to certain pages, all the hyperlinks go to page 2.
This happens even when I set the proper page number.

Any tricks I'm missing? Cheers :)

Thank you!
Be well :)

Happy new year!
Best,
Kevin

Beginner Talk / Re: Trouble importing graphs to Scribus

Interesting. If I try to follow your steps, I am unable to paste.

1. Open Dummy.odg in Draw
2. Select the graphic, right click, select copy
3. Open Scribus file, Ctrl-V doesn't work (and the paste option is frozen in the Edit menu).

Did I follow your steps correctly?
Do I need to enable anything in particular to allow pasting from clipboard?
If relevant, I am not able to paste pictures from clipboard either (e.g. if I try to paste a screenshot).

I was able to paste the object if I created an image frame, using right click, "Paste Image from Clipboard" option.
But then it behaves as an image, not as graphic + text.

I had no issue with copying the copying and pasting the graphic with right click and used copy from the .odg file opened in LO and then pasting directly into Scribus. In Scribus I had to use CTRL-v

I'm having issues importing graphs, particularly the text-part.

I have a few graphs that I created in LibreOffice Calc.
Now I'm looking for a way to import that into Scribus so that when I make the final PDF publication the text will still be selectable (converting to images is not an option).
I'm using Scribus 1.4.8.

To start with, the .ods file I get from Calc is not directly importable, so it needs to be converted to something else first.
Calc doesn't offer any useful exports, so I'm copying my content to LibreOffice Draw and exporting there.
Draw gives more useful options - I focused on .eps and .svg.

If I import (File / Import / Get Vector File) the .svg file, it imports the picture, but not the text.
This is probably expected according to this article: https://wiki.scribus.net/canvas/Help:Manual_Importsvg

Importing the .eps file doesn't work at all, though. I get Fatal Error, Importing file: C:/Dummy.eps failed!
I also tried opening the svg in Inkscape and exporting to .eps there, as suggested here:
https://scribus.scribus.narkive.com/56HG2mxK/importing-oo2-spreadsheet-graphs-into
but this didn't work either - same error. I'm not sure what is wrong as the error message doesn't say.

Both .eps files seem to be OK, as opening them in IrfanView works normally.

The files can be found here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1rS90L-A5lgURtDIZbUpickf-Ej6-DX_u

What's the best way to go about this? Any help is appreciated.

hi kevin

there was a bug which leaded to a crash. but in the newer .svn versions it is fixed and you can open ('file' → 'open', not 'import') .idml files.
i almost never need it, but it works. i just tested it with scribus1.5.8.svn-r24780.

hey thanks ToyotaDesigner and Nermander :)

Nermander, I think I saw a similar post when researching yesterday.

Do you happen to know where I can get a download link?

Thank you :)

Scribus has, as far as I know, limited support form IDML import. I found this thread from several years ago. So you would probably need a development version.

As far as I know, there is no way to import an INDD or IDML file into Scribus.

All I know is that you can open an IDML file with Affinity Publisher, export the document as a PDF and open the PDF with Scribus. The text looks a bit weird, but the rest is ok.

Hello!

I am new to the forums and my name is Kevin.

I have an idml file with the fonts and images in separate folders.

May I ask how to import everything so the original design (that was in an indd format) look correct?

Sorry, I searched the forums and couldn't figure it out.
I can't import anything for some reason.

Edit: So, I realized I probably need to open the idml file first then click the import buttons (which were greyed out before) but now after opening the idml file they are still greyed out (can't click).
I do notice that even duplicate of the idml files say converted beside the file title. Not sure if this is important.
(sorry, I'm really new to Scribus)

Edit #2:  Okay, so I put the fonts and images in the root folder and it sort of worked.
Some fonts didn't work and some images didn't show.
Perhaps I should just sign up for a trial version of InDesign :(

I have Scribus 1.5.6.1 and I'm on MacOS Monterey.

Thank you so much for reading this.
I hope you and your family stay well.

Best regards,
Kevin H.

General Discussion / Re: PDF Bookmarks

So according to https://www.drivethrurpg.com/shared_images/HowToSCRIBUS-digital.pdf, p. 4.

Bookmarks are ordered by creation date, not appearance in a document.

1. Ensure that each bookmark that you want to appear in the PDF output document has Is PDF Bookmark checked. Do this by right-clicking the textbox, then select PDF Options, then place a checkmark by  Is PDF Bookmark .

2. Next, open the Bookmarks window, then order the bookmarks there by drag and dropping with your mouse.

3. Then create the PDF.  Verify the order of the bookmarks.

I went back and checked one of my old newsletter and to my horror found the same problem.  I implemented the solution above and it worked.
