Title: Teacher Wants: Single Source, Multiple Outputs
Post by: webmanoffesto on May 31, 2014, 06:43:20 PM
I teach English at a technical college (mainly reading comprehension). I've been looking for a Single Source - Multiple Outputs tool.
I want to create multiple documents from one source (especially Teachers' copy and Students' copy)
I want help
-  creating textbooks (students' copy with questions, teachers' copy with questions and answers)
- tests/quizzes (students' copy with questions, teachers' copy with questions and answers)
- and other various worksheets etc.
Can I do that with Scribus?

I would also like to make multiple versions of one exam (usually the same questions but in a different order):
- Row A student copy (questions only)
- Row A teachers' copy (questions and answers)
- Row B student copy (questions only)
- Row B teachers' copy (questions and answers)

I don't need the heavy formula editing ability of Latex, but I will include some technical illustrations.

As a classroom teacher, I'm usually given 15 different Word documents with no answers (student copy) and 15 different Word documents with answers (teacher copy). I then add my own comments, and maybe add some more reading comprehension questions.

If I understand your requirements correctly I'd say that you can probably do what you want with Scribus quite easily if you use layers.

For example, you can put your questions on a "questions" layer and your answers on an "answers" layer and then activate/deactivate the layers as needed before exporting to PDF.

You can also use other layers to add your own comments etc.

That may work for me. Thanks.
