Text and Typography / Re: indents

Quick note to add to Nermander's suggestion.  You can't manually input a negative number as an indent.  You enter the positive number into the paragraph indent, and Scribus automatically makes the first line indent the identical negative.

I'm attaching a picture.

Text and Typography / Re: indents

Hi, For years I've been manually putting an indent on the lines of text under the beginning subject because I couldn't  figure out how to have it done automatically (like I always did when using Page Maker). But now I'm wondering if there _is_ a way to set the text to do that automatically. Sometimes I can't get the other lines of text to indent without my rewording, so I'm really hoping someone can help. (TIA)

It sounds as if what you are asking for is hanging indent, and of course that is possible in Scribus.

Essentially you set the intent for the paragraph to a value (like 1,5 cm) and then you set the first line indent to the negative of that value (-1,5 cm in this example).

I think you need to set this in a style though, I think it's not accessible as direct formatting.

Hi Utnik, thanks a lot for the trick with the Ā»OutlineĀ«. Didn't even know the feature exists, but it comes in handy from time to time.

PDF Generation / Calculations / values not updating in real time
« Last post by Lubitch on October 22, 2021, 01:22:41 pm »
Hi
I made the pdf that is suppose to calculate the values in real time.

Original document I made some time ago was working fine, so I have duplicated it and made new one with different layout and some other changes. The  I have noticed that when I correct number used in calculation, in cell/table then value is not getting updated.

In this doc values not updating are at the bottom

I found the workaround.

Cells used in calculations need to be updated from the beginning of chain.
In this case I have updated Calculate Tab starting with
Sub total > ExVAT > Vat > Total
Thing is: anything braking that chain - in this work around - like correcting something [can recall exact trigger but cell tooltip doesnt trigger] in the middle triggers that all the process have to be repeated.

Maybe there is something missing with the software when you installed it .

Nevermind, I traced the problem to a corrupted text box.

Maybe these videos will help you to get started with this fantastic publishing program.

General Discussion / File opening hangs on 1.5.5 (on Ubuntu)
« Last post by Katewerk on October 20, 2021, 06:21:53 am »
I've been trying to open a 75 page document on Scribus that I've been working on for some weeks. It is generally slow to load, but now it's hanging completely. It stalls at 28%, then again at 35%... sometimes gets to 98%... but refuses to complete. I usually I give up and kill it  after several minutes of waiting. (I have several autosave versions, and backups of the file. Some are still loading but they're old versions and require a lot of repeat work.

I've read that 1.4.6 is the stable version. Is it worthwhile to uninstall 1.5.5, revert to 1.4.6 and try to open this document on the stable version? I'm at my wits end here. I've lost a lot of work.

I did try to search this issue, and found really nothing other than the undo function corrupting files. Which may be at the heart of what's happened here. Ugh.

General Discussion / Re: Will page imposition ever be a built-in feature?
« Last post by Nermander on October 19, 2021, 09:39:44 pm »
For booklet printing a lot of the available solutions work, but I have not found many solutions that can mange issues like creep and collating marks.

I made some scripts a few years ago (I think they are in the Scribus wiki) that did impositioning of postscript files, including creep, signature numbers and collating marks.

They used pstops for the core work, if someone would write a pdftopdf with the same features as pstops most of my scripts could probably be adopted to work on PDF. But I have not yet found a pdftopdf that supports all the options.

jPDKtweak comes close though, maybe more recent versions support command line options like pstops (I haven't looked into this for several years).
