I am fast losing patience and confidence in SCRIBUS.
I'm running version 1.5.8 on 64bit Windows10 Home.

Losing links to embedded images is an ongoing issue I have had on a number of occasions now and I don't believe it has anything to do with moving sla files or where the source of the images reside! There is another mechanism in play here somewhere.

Initially when I kept having this problem I decided that I would store all the images in a common directory and make sure the images were embedded and this seemed to resolve the issue.

However the problem has returned.

I produce a monthly village newsletter and as a consequence of such, a number of images are repeated in the same position month after month. I also keep an archive of each monthly issue going back some months.

Whilst creating the May issue this time I closed down my PC last evening, exiting all open windows beforehand.
This morning I login and load up the .sla file for this month and all the images, both new images for this month and regular images that are repeated every month, are not displayed. There is just the "X of doom" and the info pop-up tells me no image is loaded. Yeah, thanks for that!

Except for one image!

No files were moved in the interim between last evening and this morning.

I looked in the Image Manager and although in the path field it displayed the correct path to the directory where all the images are stored it only displayed the last .JPG file I copied into the image directory yesterday. All the others had the "X of doom".

I then loaded up last month's issue from the archive and all the images are displaying correctly and, in the Image Manager all the images are shown in the image directory.

Why is that?

It seems to me that something in the .sla file for the May issue has got corrupted and it no longer knows where the Image Directory is and yet it does for that one image. Very strange.

Looking at the failing .sla, the one for the May issue, if I do a get image on one of the image frames that has lost it's image, I am able to locate the correct image in the image directory and crucially if I now look in the Image Manager that image is now visible!

This is insane!

What is more important .......... what is the resolution to this exasperating error.

PDF Generation / Re: Export to PDF as two pages

hi hamur

you could work with a double sided layout beginning with a left page. the view of your workspace would be the same (594mm×210mm) but it would export as two pages…

Layout Issues / Justified text not flush with frame on both sides
« Last post by Biblio on April 26, 2022, 07:42:56 pm »

There is a gap between my text and the end of the frame (cf. the attached screenshot) despite the fact that the text is justified. I don't want to change the optical margins, that is not the issue. The problem is that when I try to make a right tab stop, the after the tab goes to the next line, which makes sense given that the text doesn't actually fit the frame properly. Can anyone think of why this would happen? It doesn't seem to be due to the font I am using (I tried with a different font and the gap was still there). There is hardly a gap at all on the left side.

PDF Generation / Export to PDF as two pages

I am designing leaflets that are to be printed out as a double sided, landscape, A4. Each side is divided into 3 sections (6 in total). It is easier for me to work as one whole page thus the document si set-up in Scribus is 594mm x 210mm.

When exporting to PDF how do I get the PDF to be two A4 pages? As it stands the PDF is one long page as it is in Scribus. I'm not sure if I need to change the document set-up, the export settings or how it is viewed/printed in Adobe.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have tried everything and have hit a dead end!

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the tip AdmFubar!

I guess reading the book from a webpage is a more convenient option. I'll be looking into your tip and also Internet Archive Bookreader. So, I guess no Scribus and downloadable book then :(

x              (x)                    I'm thinking your configuration file might be the culprit. Locate the .scribus  directory, usually in your user directory and with scribus not running, rename it to .scribus-old.Restart scribus and open the troublesome files and see if the issue persists. if not, great. issue solved, if it is still there then that isnt the problem. You  might want to revert using the old profile. quit scribus and then delete the new created configuration and rename the .scribus-old  to .scribus.

x              (x)                    The staff at The Public Domain Review might be a good source of howto information as this is something they do often for books the put online.
I'd ask them for some guidance they may be will to pass something useful along.

hi sap

i'm not sure what went wrong here. usually scribus doesn't change the size of placed files in secrecy…
did you manipulate the images in some way outside of scribus? (in this case scribus would load the manipulated version when you reopen the file…)
what scribus version do you use? (if it's 1.4.? i would try to open a copy of the file with scribus 1.5.8…)

Hi utnik and thanks for your reply!!

I haven't manipulated the images outside of scribus, although when I upload them on my work I have them be scaled depending on the "image box" I created beforehand (my scribus is in French so no idea what it's called in English). Then I change the outline of the image so that my text can adapt more closely etc. Could it be than when I open my file, the images get scaled again on the new outline? Like if I trimmed some parts of the image before saving and closing my scribus file, then the imag with scale back to that trimmed version and appear smaller?
