PDF Generation / Re: Blurb
« Last post by phdeletree on January 08, 2022, 03:05:47 pm »
I contacted Blurb to be able to fix the problem of the fonts when downloading a pdf. After a few exchanges I still have a message (in red) concerning the fonts but it is no longer blocking. According to engineers at Blurb, the problem is with Scribus. Glad to be able to continue making photo books under linux with Scribus at Blurb.

Linux / Scribus crashes when import big files
« Last post by elm31rugby on January 08, 2022, 11:35:03 am »
Hello, and sorry for my english (I'm French !)
Using Ubuntu 20.04, Scribus 1.5.5
I'm editing books, so I need to import "big files" in Scribus
My file is about 60 pages A4. It is a text file, I just import text.
When I try to save my Scribus File, it crashes
To know what happens, I lanch Scribus in a shell, and the shell returns :
Code: [Select]
Impossible de trouver le symbole (/usr/lib/scribus/plugins//gettext//libtxtim.so: undefined symbol: GetText2)
QPixmap::scaled: Pixmap is a null pixmap
QPainter::begin: Paint device returned engine == 0, type: 2
QPixmap::scaled: Pixmap is a null pixmap
QPainter::end: Painter not active, aborted
setBestEncoding for  ArialMT  with  1320 glyphs, hasNames= 512 , POST size= 12804
Checking cmap  0 ( 0 , 3 , 0 ) format  4
found Unicode enc for Arial Regular as map 0 with 1186 glyphs
Checking cmap  1 ( 1 , 0 , 0 ) format  0
Checking cmap  2 ( 3 , 1 , 0 ) format  4
found Unicode enc for Arial Regular as map 2 with 2372 glyphs
using Unicode enc for Arial Regular
Processus arrêté
I've been looking for a solution on Ubuntu french forum, but no way to solve it.
Have you any idea ?
Thank you, have a nice day !

Beginner Talk / Re: Hanging link from text frame on last page of document
« Last post by utnik on January 08, 2022, 09:04:03 am »
hi peterh

if you can't find your free text frames somewhere around your pages, you may select them in the 'outline' window (they are listed as 'free objects'…) scribus will display the selection in the main window and you can edit, move or delete them.

Further to my original post, I have managed to remove the hanging link by repeated deletion of the final visible page.  However Scribus still seems to think there is something beyond the final page, as the pre-flight verifier shows two non-page items, shown in the attached screenshot.  Can these items be removed?  Page deletion doesn't seem relevant, as they aren't pages!

Text and Typography / Phantom A's & Arabic glyphs within text box after saving
« Last post by JodyNoel on January 07, 2022, 07:25:37 pm »
Hello everyone!

I'm creating my 2nd book with Scribus (1.4.8). So I'm trying to figure out which (Open Source) fonts will look best. But I'm having a hugely frustrating issue and I can't find anything about this online. I believe I had this issue with the first book too (many scribus versions ago), but settled on less exciting fonts that worked.

Steps
1) I create content with text box.
2) Save
3) Reopen to see my text with random letters, most often 'A's or sometimes Arabic glyphs

Not all fonts do this ... but many do... the ones I like.. do.  :'(
For months I've been clicking / unclicking / toggling / disabling features / doesn't seem to be proofreading marks or anything that I can find... hope to be wrong here.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
Jody

PS. for some reason I can't take screen shots anymore (FML) so my example is a bad photo  ;D

I have the same problem with random linked text boxes appearing far off the end of the document by themselves. No idea why it happens or how to prevent it, but very interested to find out

Installation and Setup / Scribus 1.5.8 interface pixelated
« Last post by Ewac on January 07, 2022, 10:03:51 am »
I just installed Scribus 1.5.8 and the interface is bigger than before and pixelated, which makes it uncomfortable to work with. I could not find any settings related to this under "Preferences". Is there any way to fix this?

Attached is a screenshot from 1.5.8 and one from 1.5.5 in comparison.

As for fonts I'd check and see if your scribus font path is pointing to the right set of fonts. There maybe some path issues as to where Inkscape may look for fonts on your system and where scribus looks for them. Check their preferences and make sure they use the same set of fonts. inkscape my use a default set that scribus can see. also check if there is an option to embed the fonts used in inkscape for the exported file. that may solve the issue.
