Tutorials, Tips and How-Tos / Re: green alignment lines
Last post by utnik - Today at 06:38:41 PM
hi pn

either 'view' → 'grids and guides' → 'show grid' or 'file' → 'document setup' → 'guides' → 'visibility' → 'page grid' for the current document and 'preferences' → 'guides' → 'visibility' → 'page grid' as a standard for future documents.

...but if this grid is better than guides (free or in columns and rows), it's probably better to deal with a vector graphic program (like inkscape) than with a layout program like scribus...

What settings do I need to enable to display these green alignment lines?
Thank you.

The moral of the story is... use SVN for when you want to play around, or are prepared to work with brokenness. Otherwise, stick with the released versions for real work.

Some "releases" of 1.7.1svn had issues when reading files.

It does not happens with Scribus, but a few months ago, while the .sla file was overhauled, it was a bit broken for a couple of weeks.

funny thing :o

on my 2nd pc windows11:
  • i deinstalled scribus 1.7.1 svn
  • installed 1.7.0
  • scribus crashed during opening the *.sla
  • deinstalled 1.7.0
  • downloaded and reinstalled 1.7.1 svn again

now it works with both files, the orignal file on the flash drive and the one with the collected output.
i will continue my work (80 pages fotobook)

thanks for the tips!

I could not download the whole folder, but I've downloaded the .sla and one of the images (which I then placed in the subfolder images)

I can see the (whole?) text and that image.
This happens on Linux with a fairly current Scribus.

But it's a mystery anyway, why the text is not shown to you...
I don't really see a reason for it.

I'm attaching two files: I don't think more are required to show what I'm trying to do and what happens.  To reproduce the problem:

1. Load testcase01.sla into Scribus. Observe the formatting produced by defined styls "TestCase01"

2. Open the test Writer file testcase01.odt. It has a style with the same name, but it has different formatting.

3. In the Scribus document, open a new text frame and import testcase01.odt into it.  You'll see that the formatting from the Writer document comes in as it was in Writer, and the formatting of the existing text frame is changed to match it.

What I want is for the imported text in style "TestCase01" to be formatted according to the style defined in Scribus, not as imported.

Thank you for helpful reply. I'll work on a small but comprehensive test case along the lines you describe, but it will take me a little while to do properly ...
