Raster and Vector Graphics / Replacing images while keeping...

Is there any way to replace an image and keep scale and position?

The 'edit image' button is one route, but I have a long technical document where I can't do that.

(As a power user of QuarkXPress I'm sure that could do it but I've not used it for 25 years!)

for centering, you can use the "align and distribute" tool...

you can even align the center to a guide : - )
or to the page...

not as "intuitive" as centering by snapping...
... but, on the other side, too much snapping makes it also harder to correctly place the items...

Beginner Talk / Color of guides and snapping t...

Hello to all!

I'm learning the ropes for Scribus and so far having great fun doing so.

I do have two questions (Windows 10 Home, Scribus 1.6.2):

1) At File>Preferences>Guides>Color, you can set any color for the Guides (Select color > Click OK to close the dialog box > Click OK again to close the Preferences dialog), and in theory, the chosen color should become the default guides color for all documents.

As long as I don't close Scribus, this works just fine, but when I do close the program, when I reopen it, the guides color is reset to its default color.

Is there something I'm missing, or is this a bug?

2) Is there not a way to snap the center of a frame?

When snapping is turned on (Page > Snap to Grids/Guides/Items), the edges and corners of frames snap as expected, but the frame's center point does not snap anywhere, with one exception: When "Snap to Items" is activated, the center of a frame can be snapped to the corner or center of another frame, but that's all. A frame's center won't snap to a guides intersection either.

Being able to snap the center of a frame would be extremely useful for, e.g., centering it on a page, or between the margins without having to go through the up-to five clicks needed via the Align and Distribute window.

Thanks in advance for any clarifications or advice you may have!

When I write VBA macros for MS Office (mostly Word and Excel), I usually record a macro when doing what I want to see how the code needs to look, and then I adapt it.

I guess that for me a visual way to write simple macros would probably be useful.

(I haven't written any scripts for Scribus, yet.)

Finding bugs.
The object horizontal/vertical alignment buttons are mislabeled/swapped.  Depend on how you want to look at it.  The terminology used is confusing and inconsistent  with the wording for aligning text.

I'm doing a cookbook, but the layout has yet to be decided. I'm thinking of doing multiple example layouts using the same content.  Have not found an easy way to do that (yet). I'm aware of using csv for a mail merge input, but the information is not in csv format because it contains food photos.  Any suggestions?

No, the release notes somehow say it: it's the first release in the new development series.

Let's just hope that the serie will not be too long and that we will soon have a new and shiny Scribus everywhere!

p.s.: of course, even development versions are mostly very usable... sometimes, one has to take care, not to touch specific features, but -- all in all -- they are rather pleasant to use!

Great! So 1.7 is the new stable version? It is mentioned below that 1.7 is the new "unstable version". Also here https://www.scribus.net/downloads/

Unfortunately, I did not find the mentioned portable verion for 1.7 yet.
