Tutorials, Tips and How-Tos / Table background color not wor...
Last post by Mel - August 28, 2023, 12:56:27 PM
Hi all,

I've been using Scribus for some years now, and today I'm running into an issue that hasn't been an issue before: I can't seem to change the background color of a table anymore. When I mark the table (or single fields in the table) and then hit F2 -> Color, no matter what color I choose, nothing happens. Before, the color got changed instantly.

I can change the background color of, say, text areas. It only seems to affect tables, existing ones and newly created ones. Does anyone have an idea?

Scribus 1.5.8 on Ubuntu 22.04.

TIA!
Mel

Scribus versions use numbering such that stable versions get even numbers (1.2.x, 1.4.x, 1.6.x) and development versions odd (1.3.x, 1.5.x, 1.7.x).

The development version 1.5.x will soon be released as stable version 1.6.x.

The development goes slow because (as Mr B says) there are few developers working and they do it in their own spare time.

The first versions of 1.5.x were indeed unstable, but the longer development goes the more stable they get (that is kind of the purpose with the development versions).

QuoteThe most recent Scribus release, 1.5.8, is not stable. Do you know if there will be a new version issued or not?

Moderation: The quote above refers to a spammy post that has been deleted.

I assume that the questions about stable/unstable of Scribus are coming from the information provided on the website where version 1.4.x (2019/03) is promoted as stable and v1.5.x (2022/01) is marked as development (which could be interpreted as unstable).

I've produced a 64 page college yearbook with v1.5.8 and haven't come across any instabilities.
Maybe something could be done on the promotional side, underlining the distinction between development and stability.

Per our conversation via Transifex:
- Scribus on Transifex is for Scribus Trunk, currently v1.7.0+
- Scribus 1.4.x on Transifex will be archived, as we are no longer developing 1.4.x
- ScribusStable on Transifex will be for Scribus 1.5.x/1.6.0. I have imported the TS files from SVN into it

This morning I received a notification that a new project ScribusStable has been added to Transifex.

Would someone care to explain the differences between these three projects and which one should receive preference OR should be ignored in taking care of untranslated strings?

Also, I get the impression that the newly added ScribusStable project is not (yet) linked to the glossary. Could this be fixed?

Still, any PDF viewer should be able to print an A4 PDF on A3 if the printer can handle A3. So if A3 is not available for the printer from the PDF viewer, that has nothing to do with Scribus.

As the old paper size list was huge, we created a limited default list.
Go into Preferences, Page Sizes, and ensure that A3 or any other size you want is in the Active Sizes list.

Thank you for the answers. I agree, there's something strange in this.

I am using macOS version 13.4.1 and Scribus version 1.5.6.1.
