General Discussion / How to transfer publisher file...
Last post by Ankrham - November 18, 2025, 04:18:41 PM
I have a lot of my work in Publisher and need to retain at the very least the content even if it is not capable of updating/altering.  I have been going through and save as PDF but this is going to take days to save every file one at a time which is the only way I have found so far.  Is there any way to move the files in a better way?  Does Scribus have much the same facilities of Publisher?  The options given by MS would mean doing what I want to do in 3 or 4 different programmes which don't provide the same options.  eg suggested to use word even though templates, decorative elements etc. don't exist so not possible to produce the same formats.  This is becoming a nightmare and I obviously need to get this sorted before Publisher vanishes.  Funnily enough I have a lot of other things I need to do and this little epic is proving really time consuming to even find out best course of action.

Installation and Setup / Syncing preferences across Mac...
Last post by FrederickYocum - November 18, 2025, 01:57:04 PM
I do most of my work on two Macs, a laptop and and desktop. This means working on projects in two places using the same applications.

I am new to Scribus. I would like to sync any changes I make to the Scribus UI to be reflected on both computers. Usually this accomplished by adding the preferences files to DropBox and symlinking the shared setting. I this a stupid idea with Scribus?

TIA

Updated / Extended the script/

DeepL Translation Script for Scribus – Auto Source Version

What it does in v4:

- Lets DeepL automatically detect the source language per frame

- You only choose:
    - What to translate (selected / current page / whole document)
    - Target language
- Translates all applicable text frames in scope
- Preserves:
    - Font
    - Font size
    - Text color
    - Line spacing
    - Alignment
    - Paragraph style
    - Base character style
    - Word-level character styles (e.g. bold words)
- Optional preview mode
- Logfile: scribus_translation_log.txt (next to the .sla document)

Note: The script is in the attachted ZIP file.

Ugh, that sounds super annoying! The Wayland/Qt combo can be tricky with Scribus right now, especially with those floating property dialogs.
The fix is definitely to run Scribus using X11 emulation. That should get those windows behaving normally and allow you to resize them until Wayland support is totally solid. Hope that gets you unstuck!

not for me. but if someone has the intention to rebuild a microsoft document in scribus it might make the task easy – but what's the real use case for it?

You dont need predefined, you need to id what fonts you do have that will be equivalent for the document you are working with.

Wouldnt it be nice for scribus to present a list of font you have that would be a good substitute for the proprietary one in the doc, rather than guessing at it?

Ok, I think I have a solution. I got rid of the contour lines and instead used column and text distances and set the right and bottom text distance to 4 mm. I don't know why I didn't think of this last night...

General Discussion / Resize text box without affect...
Last post by PastaShock - November 17, 2025, 03:05:48 PM
I'm working on a book where I need to place a text box inside a text box and there needs to be a 4 mm border around the text box inside the other one. Here is a picture of what I am trying to accomplish:

The way I did this is by using countour lines. But the issue I am having is I am re-using these two text boxes multiple times down the page, and sometimes I need to resize the small inner text box in the upper right corner. When I do that, the countour lines change and no longer maintain the 4 mm padding. Is there a way to resize the text box and maintain the 4 mm padding? Is there a better way to do this than contour lines?

yes, i see.
but as i don't use those proprietary fonts for many reasons, this part didn't reach my attention – and a prefilled substitution table in scribus wouldn't change anything for me.
an automatic recognition of fonts with licensing restrictions might be a good thing for many users. (but i still don't like the predefined replacement fonts...)
