Title: Master page problems
Post by: jim78b on August 09, 2019, 12:27:13 PM
I am undecided whether to keep everything in a file with 11 chapters and for each page right and left make a master page I will have 11 pages right +11 pages 11 master or keep in separate files and in each file I will have only one master page right + 1 left .
the problem that in every master page at the bottom I have to write the title of the chapter so it will be 11 different pages! how do you do?

hi jim

as always, there are different ways...
i think, i would work with different master pages. (unfortunately there's no such thing as cascading master pages...)
as an alternative you could use the scrapbook for the chapter titles.

Scrap book ?what is ?

under 'windows' → 'scrapbook' you'll find a storage space for preconfigured items (or groups of items). you can store objects there via menu 'item' → 'send to' → 'scrapbook' or with a right click on the object. a double click on a scrapbook entry places the stored item on the actual page with te original coordinates.

In terms of deciding whether to use one big file or eleven smaller ones, it appears to me that the chief factor to consider is whether Scribus is cludging down with the larger file size due to memory issues. If performance slows unacceptably, split the big file into chapters. On my system I find I am limited to about 50 pages and that after this Scribus runs slowly, but I think this is due to my computer's own memory limitations. (8 gigs, 6 usable). Probably most of you have a lot more, ha. The master pages issue is not related to this. It should be perfectly possible to make as many master pages as you can use. The Doc Setup menu has a way to divide a file into sections if required, with different page numbers or footnote orders.
