Title: Scribus slow on my HP desktop but not on my Lenova laptop
Post by: Hans Claesson on May 13, 2021, 05:54:49 PM
Strange experience this week.

I have tried to work with long text files in all version from 1.4.8 and up and Scribus has been struggling on my HP Pavillion 500-248, AMD A10 6700 cpu, 32 GB Ram, 1 TB SSD HD. Very slow with long text. I thought, well this is Scribus... But then I tried to run Scribus on my wife's Lenova laptop, equipped with an AMD Ryzen 3 processor and 250 MB SSD and it works like a dream! 286 pages with 64 high density images - no problem!
Very strange I would say. What is the difference between these PC's? Anybody has any idea? Both machines are running on the latest Win10.

Well, the big difference is the CPU: the AMD A10 6700 is a very old, slow, entry level CPU while the AMD Ryzen 3 is much more modern.

If you boot into the bios, it there any hardware tests you can run from there? I'd check to make sure there isnt any issue with the hardware. I would  run a memory test to make sure it is performing properly.
