Beginner Talk / Re: Color background

hi jackie

you can't apply your gradient to the empty canvas. you need to create a full sized square and apply the gradient to this object.

Beginner Talk / [SOLVED] Color background
Last post by Jackie Treehorn - February 10, 2026, 07:42:47 PM
I am using Scribus for the first time. I created a 40X30 inch document that I added 15 png images into. I want to fill the background with a color I created in gradient but I don't see how to apply that color into the background?

Layout Issues / Kening issues copying LibreCal...
Last post by chimaera - February 10, 2026, 05:07:17 PM
Hello fellow designers!
I'm having a great time with Scribus, but tables have been the bane of my existence. When copying tables over from LibreCalc to Scribus, I'm getting errors with text kerning that's causing certain characters and combinations of characters to appear garbled, or not appear at all. I'm using Monserrat Medium for the font in both LibreCalc and Scribus.

I'd love to hear if anyone has had similar issues, and how you solved it. I'd like to keep using Scribus, but I'm early enough in my layout that I'm happy to use something else if I'm unable to fix this, as tables are essential for the book I'm designing.

Thanks for reading!

TLDR: copying LibreCalc table to Scribus results in kerning errors

Text and Typography / Re: Outline text without the t...

hi philip

try 'text properties' → 'colours & effects' → 'outline' (the second icon from the right side). then you need to set the text color to 'none' and the text stroke as you need it.
to change the width of the outline press the 'outline' button for a second or two...

...in scribus 1.7.x it's 'text properties' → 'typography' → 'outline'. the rest is the same as in the stable versions.

Text and Typography / Outline text without the text
Last post by PhilipL - February 10, 2026, 03:38:38 PM
Looking to do something like this. Easy in LibreOffice but can't work out how to do it in Scribus. And if it is possible, how can you change the width of lines?

Quote from: Lynn on February 10, 2026, 01:24:15 AMYou can still drop shadow text. Things have definitely moved around in 1.7.2 and the new icons take some getting used to.

In the text properties palette, you can apply a text shadow using the button all the way on the right at the top of the "Typography" section. You have to click on "Typography" to open up that section (See picture)

If you prefer to edit text in the story editor, it's the same icon as the text properties palette (an uppercase T, with the little arrow for the dropdown), it's located right next to the outline text button in the row with all the other effects.

Thank you very much

I think you're having a bit high of expectations of the speed of response on this forum - in the time since I started posting last week I've seen maybe a total of 12 users post, half of them beginners who popped in for a single question.

You're describing in pretty vague terms a really specialized application (astronomical calendars, large numbers of text frames, unspecified visuals) and it's unclear from everything you've said if the high processing time was unique to your script or applicable to the workflows other people are using.

Anyway, ultimately it is your choice whether to share your script/optimization process or not. Congrats on getting your project to work!

Maybe in six or nine months someone will come along doing something similar and regret that they weren't here the right week to get assistance from you. I like to think of forum posts as gifts to future visitors hunting for information; but you're never under and obligation to share.

Well you'd think if you hit share that it would share the file, but apparently it decided not to this time. The link should work now.

I've added a copy here, but I know sometimes the mods have to clean out attachments for storage space reasons so best of luck to any far-future visitor.

Hello.

It was a difficult job, but I finally managed it.

The first version of the astronomical calendar took an indefinite amount of time to process: the time per page increased progressively, and after the fourth hour, processing took place at a speed of five minutes per page.

After simplifying the the graphic structure, the 107 pages of the calendar were processed by Scribus in 3 hours and 30 minutes. Still too long.

Now, without further graphic simplifications, but with special technical measures, the processing of the entire agenda takes about 6 minutes and 30 seconds. Of these, about 3 minutes are taken up by Python for astronomical calculations. The graphic processing of all 107 pages takes about 3 minutes and 30 seconds.

How did I manage to reduce the processing time so dramatically?

I would like to talk about it, but I see that the topic is of no interest here. In fact, no one has deigned to respond to me, yet Scribus is notoriously slow in processing long documents, and all of you have certainly found yourselves bogged down in problems similar to mine. So I won't bore you with technical details.

In another forum thread, I have posted an improved version of the script (and instructions for use):

https://forums.scribus.net/index.php/topic,6486.msg27796.html#msg27796

I repeat that I am not a programmer and I don't have much knowledge of computer language (only basic lessons). The script is generated with AI. That's why I haven't uploaded it to GitHub or other platforms (it's not really mine). I think it's best for someone who is a real developer to take it as a starting point.
