Unfortunately I can't access the old disk, I formatted it because I'm going to give the pc to my daughter.

That's a real shame, does it mean that I can't even recover the text?
If you only have formatted the disk, and the partitioning hasnt changed, then recovery is simple. Use photorec to recover the data on the disk. You will need another disk with enough space to recover the data source drive data.

Versions are available for all major platforms
See https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec

hi rui

if you didn't something special, the text should be there. (but a single line of text i. e. a title in a tight frame may not be visible, as the new scribus version with it's new text layout engine or a replaced font on the new computer might lead to a text overflow...)
with the images it is a bit more complicated. if you still have all the images, a manual recovery is doable, but might be time consuming. the situation is much better if all the images are in the same directory. in this case you could change edit path to the images in the code of the .sla file. ('search and replace' with a text editor)

I found this:

https://wiki.scribus.net/canvas/How_can_I_move_a_Scribus_file_to_another_computer_along_with_its_images%3f#:~:text=How%20can%20I%20move%20a%20Scribus%20file%20to,copy%20the%20entire%20directory%20to%20the%20other%20computer.

It seems to me like there would be more than one way to move files from one computer to another, or am I reading too much?

This forum has very active moderators, and the moderators also have access to information we users do not have (like user e-mail and IP-address). So usually spam post (and users) are removed within a day or so.

No need to report to admin, really. I (and others) check recent posts every day. The problem is that its not necessarily automated bots creating accounts but also real people. Very little we can do to avoid it I feel, apart from raising the barrier for initial account creation which will reduce real users getting in to get help.

 Debian's bug tracker is typically for reporting issues, not requesting new features. Look for a mechanism for submitting feature requests on Debian's website. Don't report a bug, request a feature. Look for Debian's feature request channel.

Does it help to report them to the moderator?
I've tried it a few times. Lately there are so many spam messages I can't report them cause it makes me wait a while before I can send a report after the first one. Don't want them to think I'm a spammer.

When selecting areas of an image in Photoshop, it's only a case of tracing what you want to select. It doesn't involve a lot of mouse clicking, Having said that, I have been using Photoshop ever since V1, way, way back 30 years ago. So I guess I'm biased. I just find it more intuitive and easier to use. As I said, I'm biased !

Image Editor Problem ......

I have Scribus 1.6.1 installed on my Linux Mint 21.3 machine, and loving it!

I also am running Wine with Photoshop 7 installed in it, but I cannot figure out how to properly set up the External Tools image editor in Scribus to actually run the Wine installation of Photoshop as my Scribus image editor.

No matter what syntax I use, I can't get it to work.

Can anyone tell me what the "Name of Executable" should be in the External Tools image editor to run my Photoshop that's in Wine? I have tried "/home/MyUserName/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Adobe/Photoshop 7.0/Photoshop.exe" - it didn't work.

However, if I directly click on the Photoshop.exe file in this directory, Photoshop opens fine....

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks....

I got it working...... here's how I did it:

How to get Photoshop (V7) running properly under Wine in Linux Mint 21.3.

This works well, (at least for me!) and allows me to use Photoshop as my Image Processing Tool in Scribus.
(I like Photoshop for image editing - in my opinion, it has the best "Magic Wand" tool of all the editors out there. GIMP comes a close second).

1.) Install Photoshop into Wine. (This info assumes that you have Wine installed in your Linux Mint).

Once Photoshop is installed into Wine, make a note of the Photoshop.exe location by looking in the .wine folder for it. It's used below.
In my Wine installation, Photoshop is located in /home/MyUserName/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Adobe/Photoshop 7.0/Photoshop.exe

2.) Create a .sh script. I named mine "PHOTOSHOP-WINE-RUN-Official-Version.sh", and put it into my Utils directory which I created in my Home folder.

# bash script contents ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////
#!/bin/bash
PAR=`winepath -w "$*"`
# NOTE the quotes around the LOC string below. Quotes are needed as there are spaces in the installation directory string.
LOC=~/".wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Adobe/Photoshop 7.0//Photoshop.exe"
wine "$LOC" "$PAR"
exit 0
# end of bash script contents ///////////////////////////////////////////

*** Set the script's File Permissions to "Allow this file to run as a program"

3.) Create a Launcher on your  Desktop - you can name it whatever you want, and assign any Icon to it.....
I named mine Photoshop 7_0_official_version.desktop

# Desktop Launcher File contents ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////
[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Name=Photoshop 7.0 OFFICIAL
Comment=
Exec=/home/YourUserName/Utils/PHOTOSHOP-WINE-RUN-Official-Version.sh
Icon=E288_Photoshop.0
Path=
Terminal=false
StartupNotify=true
# end of Desktop Launcher File contents ///////////////////////////////////////////

*** Set it's File Permissions to "Allow this file to run as a program"

4.) To use Photoshop 7 as your image editor in Scribus 1.6.1, (and likely other versions also):
Open Scribus, go to Preferences, External Tools, Name of Executable and enter the location of your .sh script. In my case, it's
/home/MyUserName/Utils/PHOTOSHOP-WINE-RUN-Official-Version.sh

That's it.... thanks much from other Scribus users for their input !!

Is getting out of hand, there is more spam posts, then actual posts about scribus.
