Hello!
I try since 2 weeks to send messages on the Scribus User Mailing List <scribus@lists.scribus.net>, but I only get error messages.
I notice that several pages by scribus.net don't respond anymore ("ERR_TIMED_OUT"). What's going on? I hope they'll come back and work again soon. :/

Have a nice day.

"). I just retryed and it failed again.
Please see both messages I sent below. Thank you in advance for your precious help!
Have a nice sunday.

Objet : [Scribus 1.5.8 | Ubuntu 22.04 LTS] Problem of menu display since Ubuntu upgrade
À : Scribus User Mailing List <scribus@lists.scribus.net>

Hello everybody,

I have new problems since I upgraded ubuntu (yesterday) to version 22.04 LTS (I don't know how to explain it in english, sigh! - I'll do my best... Hope you'll understand!):
  • the selected functions are not highlighted anymore. For example: in the text settings menu, the text alignment buttons have all the same light grey background, so that I can't see which one is selected. Another way to say that is that every button doesn't look like a button anymore (neither animation nor shadow by mouseover);
  • all the checkboxes desappeard too!
Other problem: in the contextual menu, by clicking right on an object (a text frame in my case), I don't see if it's locked or not: the checkboxes disappeard also there.

Help please! It's very handicapping!
Have a nice day,
Vincent

Hello!

Well, the issue I reported this morning seems to be worst than I thought... :(
  • All the buttons but also the menus tabs and fileds aren't "animated" anymore, one can't see if they're clicked on or not (no relief, no colour change);
  • there is no more scrollbar neither at the bottom of the page nor on the right side of the screen (or on the left of the embeded settings window);
  • after having modified a page template and validated it, I often can't scroll down anymore: I see the page before the one I modified and the very top of that one; I only can scroll up. Solution found so far: exit Scribus and start it again. >:( Windows like!
What I did to fix it - in vain: I deleted the AppImage and downloaded it again. Useless.

I hope someone can help me soon. Thank you in advance, best wishes.

As someone who works in printing, I'll reiterate what others have said: Talk to the printer!

Over the years, many people would have saved lots of time and effort if they had done that first instead of guessing or asking on forums or asking everywhere but the printer who will be printing the job.

I don't have Acrobat
I did see that the sla file had some frames and elements going off the page margins.
It took a little ditteling to get the master pages reformatted and sorry, I can't tell if that made any difference.

Nice web site and looks like you put in a ton of work on the project.

Quote from: MZaske on March 25, 2023, 12:44:11 AMI am using Scribus for over 10 years, and I needed a new forum thread to be reminded that I have to close all documents, before I can make (certain) changes to the general preferences. And I need to change those general preferences before I can then tune my custom document preferences.

As far as I know that is no longer the case, today there is "Document Setup" for the current document and "Preferences" for future new documents.

And if you go to Edit->Colours and fills you can for example choose, import and save colour sets.

I see it is a 1.6 version of a pdf. Have you tried saving and 1.4 or 1.5 versions to see if it would load?

I am not.

You can download the PDFs from my website https://www.stamphacks.com. The US Letter 2022 or 2021 supplements will lock up Adobe Reader on Mac for me.

well, it is not really solved.
colors for the actual document are edited when the document is open. but you have to close all your documents before you create colors for your standard palette (for the documents you create afterwards...)
the fact that the 'item tools' don't list the colors of the actual file is a bug and should be reported here. (it lists the standard palette which is defined for your new documents...)

Today I spent a lot of time to figure out how to expand the short list of colors available in > Document Setup > Item Tools > Lines (for example).

I am using Scribus for over 10 years, and I needed a new forum thread to be reminded that I have to close all documents, before I can make (certain) changes to the general preferences. And I need to change those general preferences before I can then tune my custom document preferences.

There are probably technical reasons for those limitations. I love Scribus but when I want to do a document (or have a deadline) I can hate those details where the hints or documentation is missing.

Scribus has got so many un-intuitive details. And often we wonder, where to put all those instructions. In this case, put them where the user will need them. Example:

When I try to pre-define a "line" for a specific document, and when Scribus is giving me only ten colors and no way to change those, then a bottom-entry in the colors-list could be "more colors". And when I click on that, then a text would come up and explain that I first need to close all documents, then adjust the generec preferences, then re-open my active document and then I can tune my line colors for custom color from my document setup.
